Jeff Gattis, who leads gaming at Amazon, caused some worry last week when he suggested that IO Interactive might not develop the next James Bond game after 007 First Light. This was concerning because many people have really enjoyed IO Interactive’s version of the character.
There was some initial misunderstanding, but it’s now been clarified. In an interview with IGN, Gattis explained that he didn’t confirm Amazon Game Studios would publish a sequel. He said the rumor spread quickly and was difficult to stop. He praised IO Interactive as a fantastic partner, mentioning he recently visited them in Copenhagen, and emphasized the importance of letting the current game thrive before focusing on a follow-up.
We’re confident we’ll make good decisions about this. Ultimately, it depends on whether people want to play the game. If there’s enough demand, we’ll move forward with development.
Even though there’s good reason to believe a sequel is happening, it’s best to be cautiously optimistic. While the game is currently doing well, and the creator has said it ‘should be made,’ remember that Amazon MGM owns the rights to James Bond. That means any sequel still needs their approval before it can move forward.
We’re holding off on celebrating until there’s an official confirmation, but it’s hard to believe a game that successfully combines action, stealth, intense fighting, and a captivating story – making it feel like a playable Bond film – wouldn’t get a sequel. Still, anything is possible, so we’ll wait and see what happens.
