The popular second Ultimate Universe from Marvel Comics is heading towards its dramatic conclusion, with its heroes battling the Maker. This villain is a twisted version of Reed Richards, and ironically, he originally created this universe. To stay in control of Earth-6160, the Maker suppressed the powers of many famous heroes or turned them into his followers. But while he was busy controlling the heroes, he overlooked the villains. In this oppressive world, many characters who would normally be villains have become heroes, fighting against the Maker’s rule.
These characters are typically portrayed as ruthless villains in the primary Marvel Universe. But in the newly created Ultimate Universe, they’ve become key heroes fighting against the Maker and his ruling Council.
5) Mysterio

Unlike the typical Mysterio who relies on trickery, the Mysterio of the Ultimate Universe is genuinely magical. This version isn’t a single person, but a secret society that shares the Mysterio identity. The group includes Quentin Beck and Gwen Stacy, and they were forced to merge after a near-fatal bombing to become more powerful. Gwen Stacy, while using the Mysterio persona, assists her husband, Harry Osborn (the Green Goblin), in fighting New York criminals like Kingpin and the Sinister Six. This Mysterio possesses true magical abilities, including illusions, flight, astral projection, and teleportation, making them a real hero instead of a fraud.
4) Killmonger

The Ultimate Universe’s Erik Killmonger, heavily influenced by his portrayal in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, fights for the freedom of his people without succumbing to hatred. When the Egyptian gods Khonshu and Ra, members of the Maker’s Council, tried to conquer Africa, Wakanda initially tried to avoid involvement. However, frustrated by Wakanda’s policy of staying out of world affairs, Killmonger left to fight for liberation as a freedom fighter. He is also in a romantic relationship with Ororo Munroe, a mutant who can control the weather and is known as Wind-Rider. Ultimately, Killmonger’s bravery and dedication impressed Black Panther so much that he named Killmonger as his future successor and the next king of Wakanda, believing he would lead the nation into a new era of peace and fairness.
3) Sabretooth

Sabretooth’s story is unique: he’s usually a hero in alternate universes, but in the main Marvel timeline, he’s a dangerous killer. This version of reality is quite different – mutants are being hunted, and Wolverine is a brainwashed assassin working for a powerful government. Here, Sabretooth is actually one of the last people fighting to protect mutants. He’s part of a group called the Opposition, which includes both mutants and humans resisting the government’s control. Sabretooth dedicates himself to helping young mutant refugees find safety. His history with Wolverine is complex – they were once friends, but became enemies when Wolverine was brainwashed. Thankfully, after Wolverine broke free from the mind control, they were able to repair their relationship.
2) Green Goblin

In a reality where Peter Parker didn’t become Spider-Man as a teen, Harry Osborn stepped up to protect New York City. After losing his parents, Harry used his family’s wealth and leftover Iron Man technology to create the Green Goblin. Unlike the traditional Green Goblin, this version relies on powerful armor and laser weapons for strength, alongside classic gadgets like a glider and pumpkin bombs. When Peter eventually became Spider-Man as an adult, the two became friends and fought crime together. For a long time, Green Goblin was the only publicly known hero in their world, and he was often more willing to use deadly force against criminals.
1) Kang

In the chaotic new Ultimate Universe, a surprising hero emerged: a conqueror. This version of Kang is actually Tony Stark from the future. Driven by fury over the Maker’s changes to history, Kang led an attack on the Maker’s base, a place called the City. Their battle bent time itself, and Howard Stark managed to trap both of them there for two years. This gave Earth’s heroes the breathing room they needed to unite and form a resistance group called the Ultimates. When the Maker and Kang finally broke free, Kang sacrificed himself to help the Ultimates defeat the Maker. Despite his questionable morals, Kang was ultimately the reason the world had any chance against the Maker.
