Is “Copilot just the new Microsoft Clippy?” — NVIDIA CEO brands Elon Musk ‘superhuman’ for hitting impressive AI feat in just 19 days as Qualcomm recalls subpar Snapdragon X Elite Dev Kit

As a seasoned analyst with over two decades of experience in the tech industry, I’ve seen my fair share of CEOs making bold statements to promote their products or downplay the competition. However, it’s always interesting to see such direct comments from Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff about Microsoft’s Copilot. While I haven’t had the chance to test Copilot myself, his claim that it doesn’t meet “usual standards of excellence” is a bold move, especially considering Microsoft’s reputation in AI.

This week, tech industry leaders have been making headlines, with Salesforce’s CEO likening Copilot to the old Microsoft Clippy, while NVIDIA’s CEO described Elon Musk as a “superhuman.” Not surprisingly, artificial intelligence is dominating discussions, but we also saw Qualcomm shelve its Snapdragon X Elite Dev Kit and Microsoft quietly release two Xbox games.

Salesforce CEO says “Copilot is just the new Microsoft Clippy”

1) In simple terms, Microsoft offers several Copilots for both general users and businesses, but a leading tech executive has likened Copilot to the iconic Microsoft Clippy. On a recent podcast, Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff stated his belief that Salesforce could surpass Microsoft in artificial intelligence.

As an analyst, I must admit that my experience with Copilot, as presented to our customers, has left me feeling underwhelmed. It seems to be more of a nuisance, scattering data haphazardly across our workspaces, rather than delivering the promised value. To date, I haven’t encountered a single customer who has successfully utilized Copilot for transformative work. In many ways, it reminds me of Microsoft Clippy – a well-intentioned but ultimately impractical addition to a software suite.

It’s understandable that the CEO of Salesforce might not be entirely impartial on this subject, given that Salesforce’s product, Agentforce, is directly competing with Microsoft’s AI offerings in the same market segment. More specifically, Agentforce assists in developing custom AI agents.

In many cases, CEOs endorse their own goods or discredit rivals, but Benioff was especially straightforward compared to others. It remains to be seen whether the prophecy of Salesforce’s CEO regarding Copilot’s short lifespan will prove accurate.

“Elon Musk is Superhuman,” says NVIDIA CEO

If someone mentioned that a tech CEO called Elon Musk “superhuman,” you might naturally think that Musk was boasting about himself. However, it was actually NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang who praised Musk for his advancements in artificial intelligence during a recent interview.

From what I understand, it appears that only one individual possesses such unique abilities: Elon. His grasp of engineering, construction, management of large systems, and mobilization of resources is truly remarkable – almost unimaginable.

Huang commended Musk for the rapid setup of an impressive supercomputer by the xAI team in just 19 days. Normally, such a task would take years instead of weeks, as NVIDIA’s CEO pointed out. He further highlighted that the construction of a supercluster with 100,000 H200 Blackwell GPUs demands significant networking, wiring, and engineering efforts due to its enormous scale.

Generally speaking, I often tell people online that complimenting someone famous like Musk won’t get them a job, but in this case, it might be beneficial. That’s because NVIDIA frequently works with Musk, such as through their collaboration with the xAI team on engineering, networking, infrastructure, and software. In other words, flattering Musk could be a smart move for NVIDIA’s CEO.

Qualcomm cancels Snapdragon X Elite Dev Kit

Initially planned for distribution to consumers and critics this week, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X Elite Dev Kit has been called off by its manufacturer. A select few were fortunate enough to obtain a Snapdragon X Elite Dev Kit, but the majority of those who pre-ordered the mini PC will not receive their units.

This week, I received an email from Qualcomm, explaining that their Snapdragon X Elite Dev Kit didn’t quite live up to their usual exceptional standards. Consequently, they decided to discontinue this product, and they are planning to return the money to everyone who bought one of these devices. As a tech enthusiast, it’s always disappointing when products don’t meet expectations, but I appreciate Qualcomm’s transparency and prompt action in addressing this issue.

Those who have made an order for the Snapdragon X Elite Dev Kit will receive a refund, regardless of whether they’ve already received one or not. Originally scheduled for shipping in June, the dev kit encountered delays and unfortunately, it never shipped out altogether.

The Snapdragon X Elite Developer Kit encountered several obstacles during its production phase. For instance, a crucial HDMI port was taken out just before it went into production, and unfortunately, Qualcomm didn’t manage to secure FCC approval prior to shipping the devices.

Among the computers powered by Snapdragon X Elite processors, Qualcomm’s development kit is the sole device specifically designed to utilize the premium X Elite SoC (X1E-00-1DE), boasting a more potent 4.3GHz boost speed compared to others in its class.

Microsoft shadow drops two Xbox games

During Microsoft’s October Xbox Partner Preview, while most of the announcements centered around future games, they also casually unveiled a couple of titles. Now, gamers can enjoy Blindfire and Animal Well on Xbox Series X|S. However, it’s important to note that Blindfire is currently in its early access phase.

In Blindfire, a multiplayer shooter, players engage in combat with an innovative twist: they can manipulate cameras and traps within the battlefield. Those who meet their demise can retaliate against their killers, offer assistance to specific players, or bolster a particular team (Blindfire offers both solo and team-based play).

Earlier this year, the game titled “Animal Well” was released for PC, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch platforms. Now, it has also been made accessible for players using the Xbox Series X|S, providing an opportunity for the Xbox community to experience this Metroidvania platformer.

Reviews

Over the past week, our Senior Editor, Ben Wilson, took control (or “got behind the wheel”) of the MOZA R3 racing wheel for a review. Impressively, this product received a top rating from Wilson.

Wilson stated, “For gamers on Xbox who want an exceptionally realistic sim racing experience with a premium direct-drive wheelbase, there’s nothing quite like MOZA’s offering. Many alternatives support PlayStation but neglect Xbox, while most peripherals tend to work on PC passively. In essence, MOZA is the top racing wheel for Xbox due to its exceptional value and superior force feedback technology.

In the words of Zachary Boddy, ReFantazio was highly commended for its exceptional world creation and storytelling, boasting compelling and immersive characters and interactions, as well as strategic, enjoyable turn-based battles that offer a variety of tactics.

Boddy kicked off their review by saying ” Metaphor: ReFantazio has cemented itself as the best game I’ve played this year so far.” That’s quite the praise from someone who spends hours playing the best Xbox games.
