The Apothecary Diaries Enters a New Season With New Look At Jinshi and His Most Trusted Ally

Fans of The Apothecary Diaries are enjoying a beautiful ongoing project while they wait for season three and the new movie. Called “The Four Seasons With Maomao and Jinshi,” it started in July 2024 and features stunning artwork of the characters alongside plants representing each season. New images are released on the 22nd of each month, often showing everyday life within the palace with characters like Jinshi, Xiaolan, Shisui, Lihua, Gyokoyou, and Lingli. The first phase of the project ran until June 2025, just before the season two finale. Thankfully, a second phase began in July 2025, this time focusing on some of the series’ less-highlighted characters, including the Three Princesses of the Verdigris House, Lakan, and Lahan. Each image showcases flowers that bloom in that month, with the flower’s meaning reflecting the character featured. For April, the artwork features Maomao and Joka, one of the Verdigris House princesses who helped raise her. Joka is giving Maomao a basket of pink peonies, which symbolize beauty, compassion, and gentleness – qualities that perfectly suit her character.

What to Expect From The Apothecary Diaries Season 3?

Although a full trailer for Season 3 isn’t out yet, the announcement teaser shows the story will be set in the northern farming villages, hinting at upcoming conflict. Following the failed Shi Clan rebellion, Jinshi has dropped his disguise as an eunuch.

Now fully committed to his royal responsibilities, he continues to serve as the Moon Prince and deal with the consequences of the Shi Clan’s downfall. When he hears about trouble in the farming villages, he turns to Maomao for help in uncovering the cause of the strange happenings.

Season three will begin airing in October 2026. A new movie, with a completely original story, is scheduled to be released in Japanese theaters in December 2026. Plans for a worldwide release of the movie are still being made and an announcement is expected sometime next year, after it premieres in Japan.
