The ninth season of Rick and Morty will premiere on HBO Max in the UK on May 25, 2026. This represents a significant shift in how the show has been released in the past.

From 2020, new episodes of the animated series first became available in the UK on E4 and Channel 4’s streaming service. They were shown there exclusively for a period of time before moving to Netflix.

I was really excited when HBO Max finally came to the UK, but I was surprised to learn that Warner Bros. pulled all their popular animated shows, like those on Adult Swim, and decided to stream them on their own platform instead. It’s a bit disappointing as a fan!

For now, season 9 of Rick and Morty will only be available on HBO Max. While the first eight seasons are still streaming on Netflix, it’s unknown if season 9 will eventually be added there as well.

As a big fan of having lots of options, it’s been a bit frustrating seeing shows move around lately. Just like Channel 4, Netflix felt the impact when HBO Max launched – it really stung when Friends left after being on Netflix for over ten years!
