PlayStation Plus subscribers are really impressed with a new free game available on PS4 and PS5. Many are saying it’s a powerful and emotionally challenging experience – both heartbreaking and quite dark. But despite its intensity, it’s a well-made game and a standout title from 2023.
Dimfrost Studios and Merge Games launched the action-adventure game Bramble: The Mountain King on April 27, 2023. It didn’t generate much buzz beforehand, but quickly gained popularity, especially after becoming available on Xbox Game Pass. Throughout that month, the game was a hot topic on the Xbox Game Pass Reddit page, with many users recommending it. While a Metacritic score in the low 80s is good, indie games often need even higher scores to get noticed. However, Bramble has earned consistently positive reviews from players across all platforms, and for good reason.
“Not for the Faint-Hearted”
PlayStation Plus members are experiencing a similar situation to what Xbox Game Pass subscribers faced three years ago, although the impact isn’t quite as strong. The game was recently added to the PS Plus Extra and Premium tiers, but it hasn’t gotten much attention because bigger titles like Red Dead Redemption 2 and Star Wars Outlaws are currently more popular. However, not everyone has noticed or been bothered by this.
A popular post on the PlayStation Plus Reddit forum highlights a highly praised game, but cautions players that it has a large file size.
The post describes the game as a thrilling, but intense experience, definitely not for those easily upset. It tackles some difficult and somber themes, and the player found it surprisingly emotionally impactful. Despite being a free game, they consider it one of the best they’ve played in a long time, praising its overall quality.
I saw a comment that really hit home – someone said they played this game on Game Pass a while back and loved it so much, they’re actually planning on buying it again! It just shows how good it is, right?
Look, not everyone loved it, and some people pointed out the gameplay can feel a bit awkward, even though the story and atmosphere are amazing. Honestly, this game is perfect if you prioritize a good story and world over super-smooth controls. But if you’re really picky about gameplay, it might not be for you. Still, I definitely think it’s worth checking out!
We don’t know how long the game will stay on PS Plus Extra and Premium, but that’s okay because it’s a relatively short game – most players will finish it in about 4 to 5 hours. Plus, PS Plus members get to play it without paying the usual $30 price.
