Even though season 3 of One Piece isn’t expected to be released for a while, Eiichiro Oda, who created the original manga, has already given it some positive feedback.
Filming for the next season of the live-action One Piece series began in November, shortly after its announcement in August 2025, and is currently underway. These new episodes, titled The Battle for Alabasta, aren’t scheduled to debut on Netflix until 2027. Despite the wait, Eiichiro Oda, the creator of One Piece, recently visited the set and shared positive feedback about the upcoming season.
Eiichiro Oda, the creator of One Piece, recently visited the show’s set in Cape Town, South Africa. According to Weekly Shonen Jump (via @PewPiece), Oda was impressed with what he saw and is excited to see how the third season turns out. He’s a creative consultant on the live-action One Piece series.
Eiichiro Oda recently spoke about the future of One Piece following the conclusion of its second season. The season ended by setting up key storylines for what’s to come, including the addition of Tony Tony Chopper to the Straw Hat Pirates after they helped save the Drum Kingdom from Wapol. It was also revealed that the leader of Baroque Works, Mr. 0, is actually Sir Crocodile, a powerful member of the Seven Warlords of the Sea, and that Miss All-Sunday is Nico Robin, who has been a wanted fugitive since childhood.
The events of season 2, with surprises like the reveal of Gold Roger’s son, have given fans plenty to think about while they wait for season 3. Creator Eiichiro Oda recently shared that he was very pleased with what he saw during a visit to the set in Cape Town, and, like the passionate One Piece community, he’s excited to see how the third season turns out.
In the Alabasta arc, Monkey D. Luffy and his crew, the Straw Hat Pirates, team up with Princess Vivi to free her kingdom from the villain Crocodile. Crocodile revealed at the end of season 2 that taking over Alabasta is a step towards finding the legendary treasure, the One Piece, and becoming the Pirate King. Meanwhile, Nico Robin has her own secret plans and needs to use the resources of the criminal organization, Baroque Works, to achieve them.
Joe Manganiello (Crocodile), Lera Abova (Nico Robin), and Sendhil Ramamurthy (King Nefertari Cobra) will be main cast members in season 3 of One Piece. Joining the show as new characters are Xolo Maridueña as Portgas D. Ace, Cole Escola as Bon Clay/Mr. 2, Awdo Awdo as Mr. 1, and Daisy Head as Miss Doublefinger. The first episode of the new season, “Where There’s Smoke,” will be directed by Christoph Schrewe and written by Ashley Wigfield.
As a critic, I have to say the second season of One Piece, which dropped this past March, is a real winner. It’s earned a perfect 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes from critics, and audiences overwhelmingly love it too, giving it a 95% rating. If you’re looking to dive in, or revisit the series, you can find the original One Piece anime on Netflix – and good news for fans, Netflix is also going to be the exclusive home for the upcoming animated remake of The One Piece!
