7 Lost Avengers We Want Back

The Avengers have included many of Marvel’s most powerful heroes over the years. Characters like Captain America, Iron Man, and Thor have become closely associated with the team, but a wide variety of heroes from across the Marvel Universe have served as Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. Some have thrived as Avengers, becoming beloved core members, only to eventually be replaced by new heroes eager to prove themselves.

Throughout the history of the Avengers, several heroes have proven themselves as valuable members, each finding their unique role before moving on. These characters truly earned their place among the team’s legends, and it’s time to bring seven of these fan favorites back into the fold, giving readers the heroes they’ve been missing.

7) Quicksilver

Quicksilver used to be a regular member of the Avengers, joining early on in their original series with issue #16 and remaining a key part of the team for a long time. It’s surprising he hasn’t been around lately. He has a strong connection to the Avengers, works well with any hero, and always has a great look. Having a fast character on the team is always an asset, and Quicksilver could easily become a top hero again – the best way for him to do that would be to rejoin the team that first made him famous.

6) Sunspot

Sunspot, a character who originated with the New Mutants, often gets overlooked despite becoming a hugely important Avenger. While teammates like Cannonball and Magik received major storylines, Sunspot quietly became one of the Avengers’ most valuable assets during Jonathan Hickman’s run. Though he can appear carefree, Alberto is incredibly intelligent and incredibly wealthy. He leveraged his intelligence, charisma, and fortune to transform himself into the business manager of the Avengers, even buying and reforming the villainous organization AIM into a force for good. He was a key member of the team for nearly six years, and many fans wish he would rejoin them.

5) Spider-Woman

Spider-Woman debuted in the 1970s when Marvel was trying to broaden its characters to reflect the growing feminist movement. After fading in popularity through the 80s and 90s, another character, Julia Carpenter, took on the Spider-Woman mantle. However, Jessica Drew, the original Spider-Woman, experienced a resurgence in the 2000s, becoming a significant character in early storylines for the Avengers. A major plot twist revealed that the Spider-Woman readers had been following for years was actually a Skrull imposter. This ultimately led to a decline in her character arc. Despite this, she remains beloved by many fans, and it’s time for her to return to prominence.

4) Mockingbird

Whether you’ll enjoy the character Mockingbird really depends on if you’re familiar with 1980s Avengers comics, especially West Coast Avengers. She famously married Hawkeye and was a central member of the team until her apparent death. However, it was later revealed during Secret Invasion that a Skrull impostor had actually died, bringing the character back. While she received some focus for a few years after her return, she eventually faded into a more generic role as a SHIELD agent. Bobbi Morse deserves another chance with the Avengers; she’s a great character who could appeal to a new generation of fans.

3) Luke Cage

Okay, let’s be real – New Avengers isn’t flawless, despite what some fans say. But it did do something amazing: it totally revamped the Avengers for a new audience and, more importantly, it launched Luke Cage into superstardom. He’d been kicking around the Marvel universe for ages, mostly with Iron Fist, but writer Brian Michael Bendis really saw something in him. Bringing him into New Avengers was a game-changer. Honestly, the book almost became his book for years, and he quickly became the team’s leader. It’s a shame that when Bendis moved on, Luke’s popularity started to fade. I think it’s time Marvel remembered just how successful he was – he was the biggest Avengers breakout in decades, and they could really use that kind of charisma again.

2) Hyperion

Jonathan Hickman’s run writing Avengers was fantastic. He challenged the team with an incredibly high-stakes conflict – the potential end of the entire multiverse – and assembled a truly powerful Avengers lineup in Avengers (Vol. 5). This team included some of Marvel’s strongest heroes, with Hyperion being a standout. Originally from Earth-13034, Hyperion befriended Thor and became the team’s powerhouse, driven by the guilt of failing to save his home world. He fought alongside Thor against the Beyonders just before Secret Wars, and hasn’t been seen since. It’s time for him to return; he was a great Marvel take on Superman while with the Avengers, and they could really benefit from his strength now.

1) Havok

As a huge Marvel fan, I’ve always felt bad for Havok. Being Cyclops’ brother meant he was constantly measured against Scott, even when leading teams like X-Factor and the X-Men. It was cool to see Captain America give him a shot with the Avengers Unity Squad, putting him up against big threats like Red Skull and the Apocalypse Twins. Honestly, the team was a mess when he took over, and he couldn’t quite hold it all together, but he still managed to pull through and be a hero. Being away from his brother’s shadow really let his strengths shine. I think a fresh start with the Avengers could be exactly what Alex Summers needs to rediscover his spark and really become his own hero.
