Though some who’ve seen it call The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus a powerful and unforgettable fantasy, most moviegoers aren’t even aware it exists. Despite a title that might suggest a lighthearted, family-friendly adventure like Willy Wonka, the film is actually a dark and complex story filled with illusions and a surprisingly sad undercurrent. Even with a fantastic cast, including Heath Ledger in one of his last performances, it remains largely unknown to most film fans.
