Rocket League is getting a major upgrade! Developers announced today that a completely revamped version of the game will be built using the Unreal Engine 6. The announcement was made at an esports event in Paris.
To reiterate: that’s Unreal Engine 6 – the next iteration in Epic’s game engine.
We don’t have all the specifics yet, but the trailer ended with an image suggesting the technology will create a shared, immersive online world, similar to a metaverse. The image also included Fortnite and LEGO Fortnite, hinting that these games will likely be rebuilt using the new Unreal Engine 6.
Since Epic Games owns the company that created Rocket League, it’s not surprising they’re testing out new technology with the game. However, this isn’t a new Rocket League game—it’s the current version rebuilt using the Unreal Engine 6.
The video clearly shows a big improvement in graphics, especially with brighter lighting and more realistic reflections on the cars. The grass also appears more detailed.
My first thought was, could this be a preview of PlayStation 6? However, the Unreal Engine has always been designed to improve and adapt, so it’s also likely it could work on PlayStation 5.
I’ll add more details to this article as soon as Epic shares information about the new engine, but you can see how Rocket League has been improved in the trailer linked above.
