Doctor Who teases return of beloved character last seen 11 years ago for new adventure

The new Doctor Who adventure, Circuit Breaker, is coming out in less than a month, and we’ve just gotten a sneak peek at a fan-favorite character making a comeback!

As we shared when the project was first revealed, Ingrid Oliver will be returning as Petronella Osgood, a character she previously played alongside the Eleventh and Twelfth Doctors.

This character debuted in the 50th anniversary episode, ‘The Day of the Doctor,’ and most recently appeared in the 2015 season 9 episode, ‘The Zygon Inversion’.

Launching on June 25th, ‘Circuit Breaker’ is a new Doctor Who story that will be released over the summer in multiple formats – including audio, comics, books, and a mobile game. It’s a collaboration between several Doctor Who partners like Titan Comics, Doctor Who Magazine, BBC Audiobooks, East Side Games, Puffin, BBC Books, and Big Finish.

A new image hinting at Osgood’s return was shared on the show’s official social media pages. The post announced that Osgood will appear in “Circuit Breaker,” a new story available starting June 25th. Fans can sign up for updates at the #DoctorWho website and register with UNIT HQ for early access.

The story begins in the Black Archive, UNIT’s top-secret storage facility for strange and powerful objects. These items have been ripped from different times and places, and are now emitting a dangerous energy that could destroy reality itself.

This isn’t a typical Doctor Who adventure, and this Doctor is different from any they’ve seen before. Facing classic foes like the Daleks, Cybermen, Sontarans, and a dangerous Weeping Angel, she must complete a crucial mission while a hidden threat watches from the darkness.

As a fan, I was so excited to see Jo Martin as the Fugitive Doctor! She first showed up in season 12 alongside Jodie Whittaker, and it was a really intriguing introduction. Then, just recently, she made a quick but awesome appearance with Ncuti Gatwa in ‘The Story & the Engine,’ which was a great little moment for me as a long-time viewer.

As a huge fan of the show, I’m really excited about ‘Circuit Breaker’! It’s going to be amazing to get extra stories and content while we wait for the next full episode. We’re hoping for a Christmas special, but I’ve heard it might be pushed back to Easter – fingers crossed it doesn’t take too long!
