Acclaimed Fantasy’s Beloved Character Gets a New Look For Latest Project Ahead of Anime’s Return

After a 16-year run, Kusanagi Mizuho’s popular manga series, Yona of the Dawn, finished on December 19th, 2025. The historical fantasy began in 2009 and quickly gained a dedicated fanbase thanks to its beautiful artwork, compelling story, and endearing characters. An anime adaptation by Studio Pierrot in 2014 further boosted the series’ popularity, and fans eagerly awaited a second season for over a decade – which was finally announced alongside the manga’s conclusion. Since then, a side story has been released, continuing the characters’ adventures after the manga’s emotional ending. Mizuho remains active on X (formerly Twitter), where she shares updates and new artwork related to the series.

Kija and Yona’s birthdays are close together – April 6th and 7th, respectively. However, the artist shared celebratory artwork for both of them on April 22nd due to a busy schedule. As popular characters, the post quickly gained a lot of attention and likes from fans. The artwork shows both Kija and Yona in gentle colors, wearing outfits that are a little different from their usual looks.

Does Yona of the Dawn Season 2 Have a Release Date Yet?

Currently, a second season of the anime has been announced, but no images or trailers have been released yet. This news appeared in the final chapter of the manga, published in Hana to Yume magazine. Although details are still scarce, we anticipate more information will be revealed later this year. The first season is available to stream on Crunchyroll, and all 45 volumes of the manga are available for purchase physically and digitally through Viz Media’s official website.

I’m so excited – Volume 47 finally came out in Japan on February 20th, 2026! We’ll find out when we get the English version in just a few months. And to celebrate, they released a gorgeous special edition artbook alongside it – it’s 64 pages and a perfect A5 size. It’s a little bittersweet knowing Volume 48 will be the last one, but it’ll include two final chapters plus an extra side story. We’re still waiting to hear when that one will drop, but I’m already preparing myself for the end of this amazing series!

Yona of the Dawn Season 2 Will Continue The Group’s Journey

I watched as the first season ended right after Yona, Hak, and Yoon finally managed to collect all four Dragon Warriors. But even with that accomplished, Yona was still unsure of what to do next. Zeno kept pressing her with questions, which really made her think about her future. She was dealing with a lot of complicated feelings, but thankfully, her friends were there for her, always ready to support her when she needed it most.

The second season follows her continued efforts to revitalize the struggling Kouka Kingdom, which has been in decline since her father was king. Along with her companions, she’ll travel throughout the kingdom and beyond, exposing hidden corruption and fighting crime in hopes of building a brighter future.
