Spyro 4 developers tease one returning feature that is hidden in plain sight

You probably heard the exciting news about Spyro 4: A Realm Beyond! But did you notice a small hint that a popular feature from previous games will be included?

I attended Summer Game Fest in Los Angeles and had a chance to talk with the team at Toys for Bob, the developers of the newly announced Spyro 4, right after they revealed it at the Xbox Games Showcase.

Since the game was just announced, the creators couldn’t share many details yet. However, they did discuss wanting to recreate the feeling from the original Spyro games – that sense of effortless exploration where you naturally discover things and simply enjoy the experience.

The developers at Toys for Bob wanted players to feel the same sense of effortless movement while flying in the game, a key new feature in A Realm Beyond. However, that’s not the main reason we’ve brought you here today.

The developers hinted at a returning feature in their announcement, and it’s subtly hidden within the game’s logo – you might not have noticed it at first glance.

The developers cleverly hid a gem shape inside the letter ‘o’ when they designed the word “Spyro.” Take a look at the image to see if you can spot it!

It may not seem like much at first, but Spyro fans will likely appreciate the hidden connection.

Man, I remember in the original games, they loved hiding gems everywhere! It was totally worth going out of your way to find them all because you’d unlock some really cool stuff. It was a great reward system.

The developers highlighted a specific detail in the logo, suggesting it offers a clue about the game’s mechanics that wasn’t shown in the trailer.

We’re confident that finding gems will remain a key part of A Realm Beyond, continuing the tradition from previous games.

While not a huge surprise, this shows the team behind the new Spyro game is carefully studying the original games to recreate that familiar and beloved feeling for players.

The logo includes a gem, strongly suggesting that collecting gems will be a central part of the game, just like in the original Spyro games. While this new game will likely feature more flying, the gems should help it maintain that classic Spyro feel.

Fans will be happy to hear that Tom Kenny is reprising his role as Spyro! The developers confirmed this after their presentation.

The team at Toys for Bob recently regained their independence – they were bought by Activision previously – and are now excited to return to making platforming games. For several years, they’d been working as a support team on titles like Call of Duty: Warzone and Overwatch.

It’s great to see Toys for Bob creating games they excel at, and we’re excited to see if their new Spyro game lives up to its potential.

The launch isn’t scheduled until spring 2027, and we’ll share more information as soon as it’s available.
