Video games are constantly growing in size, with recent releases jumping from tens of gigabytes to hundreds.
Given how massive Grand Theft Auto 6 is expected to be, it’s no surprise that leaked information suggests the game will require a lot of storage space on your computer.
As fans eagerly anticipate the third trailer, those who uncover game details – like leakers and industry insiders – have been busy finding out information, including how large the game file will be.
According to GTA 6 Intel, a source familiar with the game’s development estimates the final file size will be a little less than 200 gigabytes. The report has since been removed.
To give you an idea of how much space these games take up, Grand Theft Auto 5 needs between 100 and 110GB of storage after all its updates. Red Dead Redemption 2, released in 2018, can require up to 150GB, depending on which system you’re playing on.
Given that GTA 6 is expected to be one of the largest and most ambitious games ever made – considering its budget, potential sales, and overall scope – it’s not surprising that the game will likely be very large in terms of file size.

Considering how large modern games have become, a 200GB size for a game like GTA 6 actually seems surprisingly modest compared to others.
Installing last year’s Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, with all its modes like Warzone, Zombies, and the Campaign, takes up over 200 gigabytes of storage space. The new Modern Warfare 4, coming out later this year, will likely require just as much, if not more.
Meanwhile, God of War Ragnarök, a less-than-30-hour single-player game, required 190GB of storage.
Okay, so games are getting huge these days, but ARK: Survival Evolved? Seriously! While other games take up a lot of space, ARK takes the cake. We’re talking a ridiculous 400 to 450 gigabytes just to install the game with all the expansions. It’s honestly mind-blowing how much space it needs!
So, when you frame it like that, 200GB for GTA 6 actually doesn’t seem too bad, right?
When November arrives and we’re busy making space on our consoles and computers by deleting games and files, we likely won’t be as enthusiastic about sharing things.
