Tonight’s episodes of Coronation Street and Emmerdale have been cancelled to allow for live football coverage.
Both soaps won’t be shown tonight and tomorrow as usual. Instead, they’ll each have a one-hour episode on Friday, June 12th, to replace the missed shows.
The exciting season of summer sports is now underway! Tonight, ITV will be showing the Women’s European qualifiers, with England playing Ukraine. The match will be broadcast from 7:30pm to 10:25pm.
England plays Costa Rica tomorrow night in their final warm-up match before the World Cup. The game is live from Orlando’s Inter&Co Stadium, with coverage starting at 8pm and kick-off at 9pm. Mark Pougatch will be hosting the broadcast.
The World Cup kicks off this Thursday, June 11th, with the first game featuring Mexico against South Africa. The broadcast will start at 7:50 PM and end at 10:35 PM.

As a big fan, I was a little surprised by the schedule shift, but I understand it’s because the show launched this new ‘power hour’ thing back in January. They’re trying to give us viewers a reliable time to tune in, which I appreciate!
Earlier this year, ITV shortened its weekly schedule of popular soap operas from six episodes to five. These 30-minute episodes now air weeknights starting at 8pm.
When the decision was made, ITV’s Kevin Lygo explained they felt this episode count would allow viewers to easily keep up with the show without it becoming a scheduling burden.
Studies reveal that soap opera fans now expect stories to move quickly. Shorter, 30-minute episodes, similar to what’s offered on streaming services, are better at delivering the fast pace, satisfying conclusions, and resolutions viewers want.
However, since then, the soaps have been taken off air to allow for sports coverage.
Lots is happening in Emmerdale this Friday! Archie tricks Caleb, Gabby’s focus on healthy eating becomes worrying, and Graham encourages Kyle to speak with Cain.
In Weatherfield, Sam is struggling with his mental health as his grip on reality weakens. Maria is left wondering when Gary doesn’t show up for their date. Elsewhere, Debbie’s friends plan a surprise getaway for her, and Carla uncovers something unexpected.
You can watch Emmerdale weeknights at 8pm and Coronation Street at 8:30pm on ITV1. Both shows are also available to stream on ITVX from 7am each day.
