
The classic BBC comedy Last of the Summer Wine is the subject of a new in-depth look at its history, coming soon to UKTV. Actor and comedian Brian Conley will host the special.
Currently being filmed, The Last Drop of Summer Wine is expected to debut next year. The documentary revisits the iconic filming locations and features interviews with the families of the show’s cast, as well as people who live in the area and were connected to the series.
Sir Roy Clarke, the original writer and creator of the show, age 96, is contributing to the tribute. He’s written new pieces inspired by the series, which will be featured throughout the special.
UKTV says the program will be a personal look back at Last of the Summer Wine, its characters, and its lasting impact, featuring the unique voice and perspective of Sir Norman Wisdom.
Clarke shared that working on this project has been a truly enjoyable experience. They feel they’ve put their heart and soul into it and hope audiences will appreciate the nostalgic journey as much as they did.

Conley said he was thrilled to host a special celebrating the world’s longest-running TV sitcom. He felt honored to share the show’s wonderful stories, humor, and the genuine affection that went into making it.
The actor, who recently left EastEnders, appeared in a 2008 episode of Last of the Summer Wine. They played the character Boothroyd in the first episode of season 29, called “Enter the Finger.”
He’s now exploring the history of the show with a look back at photos, scripts, and personal items from Sir Clarke’s own collection, along with materials saved by the families of the show’s stars.
Commissioner Jason Dawson noted that, even after sixty years, viewers remain incredibly loyal to the show Last of the Summer Wine.

Producer Lindsay Jex shared that making the film was a wonderful experience. She especially enjoyed collaborating with Sir Roy Clarke and getting to know the people in the Holmfirth community.
The families and friends of everyone involved with the show have generously shared a wonderful collection of old photos, scripts, props, and behind-the-scenes videos they found while looking through their attics and garages.
“The Last Drop of Summer Wine” is part of a trend on UKTV of revisiting beloved classic British TV shows. Other recent programs in this style include documentaries about Victoria Wood and “Open All Hours,” and upcoming shows will explore “Only Fools and Horses” and a look back at classic sitcoms with Joe & David.
The Last Drop of Summer Wine is coming to U&Gold in 2027.
