‘There Is Only One Ending’: Final Fantasy 7 Revelation Director Confirms Linear Story

While the first two Final Fantasy 7 Remake games featured branching paths and exploration, the third game in the series will follow a straightforward, single storyline.

For a long time, players have been curious if the Final Fantasy 7 games might move beyond the established storyline, potentially with choices that affect how the story unfolds.

Both Remake and Rebirth let players make choices that affect the story. Side quests can change based on what you’ve already done, and Rebirth also includes a system where your dialogue choices impact your relationships with other characters.

Both games stick to a fixed storyline, and Final Fantasy 7 Revelation will do the same – you won’t be able to alter the main plot.

“I want to be very clear about the ending,” director Naoki Hamaguchi tells Automaton.

We’ve had a lot of dedicated fans follow this story, and we want to give them a satisfying, final ending as a thank you. So, our plans haven’t changed – there’s just one conclusion we’re committed to.

He added that the core storyline will remain the same, so fans don’t need to worry about any major changes.

Hamaguchi explains that your choices will matter beyond the main story, influencing both your personal experience and the side quests you encounter.
