Star Trek’s Best Modern Show Makes an Exciting Promise to Classic Trek Fans Ahead of 2026 Return

Things have been changing a lot for the future of Star Trek, particularly with Paramount’s merger with Skydance and the possibility of merging with Warner Bros Discovery. But Star Trek fans still have one season of a major series to look forward to. Star Trek: Strange New Worlds will premiere on Paramount+ on July 23rd, with new episodes released each week until the season finale in September. Bill Wokoff, a writer and co-executive producer, recently discussed the show and made a special promise to fans before it ends.

In a recent conversation with TrekMovie.com, producer Henry Witkoff shared that the upcoming final season of Strange New Worlds will feature a blend of traditional Star Trekstyle episodes alongside the show’s unique approach. He confirmed they’re planning another episode using puppets, describing it as a bold creative choice. While not every episode will be so unconventional, the season will likely include more episodes that feel like classic Star Trek. Witkoff emphasized that the goal is for every episode to feel authentically Star Trek*, even when they take creative risks, and suggested there might be fewer of the particularly experimental episodes seen in previous seasons.

How Will Season 4 Be Different?

The executive producer also discussed how the final season will be different from previous ones. They explained that season 4 delves into unexplored parts of the characters’ backgrounds, particularly Pike’s, revisiting elements they thought were resolved in season 3. This allows them to finally resolve storylines hinted at as early as season 1, something they couldn’t do with only ten episodes per season. Each season, the show aims to tell stories relevant to the current world, using the framework of Star Trek. The final season reflects today’s world in a new way, differing from the approach taken in season 3.

In addition to Strange New Worlds, Star Trek: Starfleet Academy is also planning a final season before ending. Although we don’t know when the show will air, this combination of two Star Trek series could be the last new content for a while. Hopefully, Star Trek will return to television screens soon.
