Nintendo revealed they’re developing a new game in the Sports series called Nintendo Switch Sports Resort. It’s coming only to the Nintendo Switch 2 and will include 12 different sports, all controlled using motion technology with the new JoyCon 2 controllers.
Nintendo Switch Sports Resort offers a variety of sports, including boxing, archery, table tennis, tennis, volleyball, bowling, basketball, golf, thumb wrestling, skateboarding, power cruising, prop plane, and jump rope. Players can create and play with detailed HD Sports Miis, or stick with the classic Nintendo Miis.
Nintendo hasn’t shared details about multiplayer options in Nintendo Switch Sports Resort yet. Given the game’s use of motion controls, it will probably emphasize playing with friends and family in the same room rather than online. Online play could be negatively impacted by delays, making precise movements difficult.
The trailer ended with a detailed look at the thumb wrestling game. Players use the Joy-Con 2’s motion and trigger buttons to win by holding their opponent’s thumb down for three seconds.
Nintendo Switch Sports Resort is the newest game in a long-running series. The last installment was Nintendo Switch Sports in 2022, which itself continued the tradition started by Wii Sports Club in 2013. Nintendo Switch Sports brought back popular activities from previous games, like bowling, tennis, and golf.
Nintendo Switch Sports Resort will be released on October 22nd, and you’ll be able to pre-order it later today.
