New Pokemon Pokopia Expansion Revealed During Nintendo Direct (& It’s Available Today)

Since its release earlier this year, Pokemon Pokopia has become popular with both Pokemon fans and players who enjoy relaxing, cozy games. Players have been excited about the possibility of an expansion, and the recent Nintendo Direct revealed some great news: Pokemon Pokopia will receive not only a new Expansion Pass, but also a significant free update later in the year.

In a Nintendo Direct presentation on June 9th, Game Freak announced a free update and a paid Expansion Pass for Pokemon Pokopia. The free update, which includes a new Dive ability, is expected to launch in August 2026 and may include more features. The paid Expansion Pass will be released in three parts, and is available for purchase in the Nintendo eShop starting today.

Pokemon Pokopia Reveals New Expansion Pass DLC & Free Major Content Update

Even before the game Pokopia came out, people were speculating about downloadable content. Now, fans finally have official confirmation that an expansion is on the way! Plus, there’s good news for everyone: a free update will add new content, even if you don’t purchase the expansion.

The new Expansion Pass will be released in three parts, starting with ‘Bubbly Basin’ in August. This first part will launch alongside a large, free update and introduces a completely new underwater town called Bubbly Basin. Players will be able to find and befriend new Pokémon like Mudkip and Corphish. Purchasing the DLC will also unlock new furniture, outfits for Ditto, and a free Dynamic Ditto print recipe.

We don’t have all the details on the second and third parts of the Expansion Pass yet. But we do know Part 2 will include new features and come out in late 2026. Part 3 will follow sometime next year, adding a brand new town for players to discover in Pokemon Pokopia. It sounds like the world of Pokopia is going to continue expanding, which is great news for this fantastic Pokemon life simulation game.

When a big free update arrives in August 2026, all Pokémon players will gain access to the new Dive move – even those who haven’t bought the Expansion Pass. While it’s unknown what other changes the update will bring, players will definitely be able to explore the underwater world with their Pokémon.

The new game, Pokemon Pokopia, is now available on Nintendo Switch 2 for $69.99. The Expansion Pass DLC is also launching today, and we’ll share the price as soon as it’s announced.
