7 Formidable Marvel Heroes Who Shouldn’t Fight Thanos Solo

Thanos is consistently ranked among the most formidable villains in Marvel Comics. While he wouldn’t win against opponents like Darkseid or Superman (I’ve definitely debated this!), he’s proven to be an incredibly powerful threat. He’s fought nearly every major hero and villain in the Marvel Universe, often taking on the entire superhero community at once. Stories repeatedly demonstrate that confronting Thanos is a massive undertaking, and many heroes have learned the hard way just how dangerous he is.

Look, as a huge Marvel fan, I’ve seen Thanos go toe-to-toe with pretty much every major hero, usually with a team. And honestly? Even our strongest heroes – the really powerful ones – would be making a huge mistake trying to take him on alone. There are seven heroes I especially think should never fight Thanos by themselves, no matter how strong they are. It’s just too risky!

7) Jubilee

Jubilee is a strong member of the X-Men, and her energy blasts have become quite powerful. However, she wouldn’t stand a chance against Thanos. He’s an incredibly powerful Eternal, capable of going toe-to-toe with powerhouses like Hulk and Thor, and even winning. While Jubilee has improved a lot, she’s simply not strong enough to harm someone at Thanos’ level – not even a little.

6) Iron Fist

Even though Danny Rand no longer officially holds the title of Iron Fist, he remains a highly skilled martial artist and a master of chi energy. This allows him to deliver incredibly powerful strikes. While his kung fu skills are a significant ability in the Marvel Universe, they wouldn’t be enough to pose a challenge to a being as powerful as Thanos. Danny is effective against typical humans and weaker supervillains, but Thanos is on a completely different level and would easily defeat him, making a fight between them uninteresting.

5) Hawkeye

Hawkeye is arguably the bravest Avenger. Clint Barton is a normal human who’s incredibly skilled with traditional weaponry, and he uses those skills to fight incredibly powerful and dangerous enemies. That takes a lot of courage, which is why so many fans admire him. While it’s entertaining to see him face opponents who are stronger than him, a one-on-one fight against Thanos wouldn’t go well – it would be over almost instantly. If he ever has to fight the Mad Titan, he absolutely needs backup.

4) Black Widow

Black Widow, also known as Natasha Romanoff, is a highly skilled spy with a long history in Marvel comics. Originally a villain, she’s become a fan-favorite hero. While she wasn’t always a top-tier character, both the comics and the Marvel Cinematic Universe have increasingly featured her prominently. Her stories typically focus on espionage, which makes a direct confrontation with a powerful villain like Thanos feel out of place and uninteresting. While she’s clever and resourceful enough to potentially avoid him, Thanos is simply too powerful and could defeat her easily at any moment. She’s a capable fighter, but ultimately not strong enough to win against him.

3) Captain America

I’ve noticed a pattern in the comments whenever I make lists like this – people like to point out when a hero has fought a specific villain, as if I missed something. But that totally misses the point of what I’m trying to show, and Captain America is a perfect example. He’s one of Marvel’s best, but he’s fought Thanos many times, usually with a team, and honestly, he’s never really hurt him. Thanos is just on a completely different power level, and it wouldn’t make sense to pretend Cap could win a one-on-one fight. It just wouldn’t be believable.

2) Mister Fantastic

It’s possible Reed Richards, aka Mister Fantastic, could build a weapon to defeat Thanos – but only if he had time and a team to protect him while he worked. He wouldn’t stand a chance in a one-on-one fight. While his stretchy body makes him hard to damage, Thanos is powerful enough to hurt him. Plus, even if Reed could avoid damage, he lacks the offensive power to significantly harm Thanos. Ultimately, this wouldn’t be a very satisfying fight unless you’re already not a fan of Mister Fantastic.

1) Wolverine

Okay, let’s talk Wolverine versus Thanos. As a massive Wolvie fan, I have to admit, this is a mismatch. We’ve seen Logan go toe-to-toe with Thanos before – he was part of the huge hero battle in Infinity Gauntlet and his claws actually did manage to pierce the Mad Titan. But that was with a whole team fighting! A one-on-one fight? Forget about it. Thanos has these incredibly powerful energy blasts, and while Wolverine can heal from pretty much anything, Thanos could just keep blasting him until he can’t heal fast enough. Even if Logan somehow managed to land a decapitating blow, it might not even work anymore, given Thanos’s… current condition. Honestly, as much as it pains me to say, this wouldn’t be a very satisfying fight to watch.
