Star Wars Fan Finds Vintage Death Star Space Station Playset on Marketplace for Amazing Price (With 1 Funny Drawback)

Many fans immediately picture Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker’s lightsaber battle or the attack on Hoth when thinking about classic moments from the original Star Wars trilogy. However, one of the most suspenseful scenes is the trash compactor sequence in A New Hope. Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, Han Solo, and Chewbacca frantically try to escape as C-3PO and R2-D2 work to shut down the machine. It was such a memorable scene that Kenner even created a playset based on it.

Vintage Star Wars toys from Kenner are incredibly popular with collectors. A Boba Fett figure recently sold for a staggering $158,600 at Goldin Auctions, and the Death Star Space Station Playset is another highly desired item. This set has three levels: the top level features a Stormtrooper-controlled cannon, the middle is a large two-part control room, and the bottom is the famous trash compactor, which operates with a crank. It includes minifigures of Luke, Leia, Han, Chewbacca, Obi-Wan Kenobi, C-3PO, and R2-D2, along with Darth Vader and two Stormtroopers. It’s a fantastic set that collectors adore, but a recent Reddit post by TaskenLander revealed someone is selling a set for just $150, which seems suspicious.

Someone Is Selling A Vintage Kenner Star Wars Death Star Space Station, But It Might Need Some Work

Looking at the photos, the set has a couple of small problems. The outer cardboard panels show their age, which is expected given their material and how old the set is. Also, the foam pieces that should be inside the trash compactor aren’t pictured. Luckily, both of these issues are easy to fix! You can find printable replacements for the cardboard online, and simply cut new trash pieces from some foam. Some of the stickers are shown, but they might not stick well anymore after so many years.

Even with a few pieces missing, $150 feels like a fair price for this Death Star playset. It’s a great collectible because you can set up so many famous scenes from the movie. I’d personally highlight the duel between Darth Vader and Obi-Wan Kenobi – it’s such an important moment in Star Wars. While putting the other characters in the trash compactor makes sense thematically, it doesn’t make for a very good display. You could also recreate the scene where Han Solo has a famously uninteresting conversation.

We found a Kenner Death Star Space Station Playset on eBay for $127.77 if you’re looking to buy one. Just double-check that it’s authentic before you bid.
