It’s been two months since the Today show anchor returned to work, and now her co-anchor is talking about how she’s been doing after her mother, Nancy Guthrie, went missing.
Melvin shared with TopMob News at the New York premiere of Disclosure Day on June 8th that he’s constantly impressed by his friend and coworker. He described it as inspiring to witness her work each day, especially considering the challenges she faces.
Guthrie recently shared how difficult it’s been to work while her mother is still missing, having disappeared in February.
Guthrie shared with Jenna Bush Hager on the June 8th broadcast of Today that she still grieves every day. She explained she cries during her commute to and from work, but feels thankful for her friends and the positive environment at Today.
You know, as a lifestyle expert, I’ve always admired Savannah Guthrie’s ability to stay positive, even when things are tough. And she recently shared something really relatable – she reminded us that it’s okay to be juggling a lot, and to feel like you’re holding everything together, even when it’s hard. It’s a message so many of us can connect with – we’re all just doing our best to manage everything life throws our way.
I tell my children the same thing,” she continued, “that we can feel both sadness and happiness at the same time. And if they’re not sure that’s possible, I tell them to just look at me – I’ll show them how it’s done. She shares two young children with her husband, Michael Feldman.
And Guthrie admitted that it’s helped her to return to work.
She explained that those two hours each day, while she is thinking about things, give her something to focus on and she really enjoys spending time with everyone involved. However, she admitted it’s still challenging.
Despite returning to work after a two-month absence following her mother’s disappearance on February 1st, Guthrie continues to be deeply saddened by the situation.
She acknowledged people might be surprised and question how she manages her work, wondering if she’s overlooking something or simply forgetting. But she firmly stated that’s never the case.

Nancy Guthrie, mother to Annie, Camron, and Savannah Guthrie, was last seen at her home in Tucson, Arizona, around 9:30 p.m. on January 31st, according to the Pima County police.
Nancy, age 84, was reported missing on February 1st after a friend noticed she hadn’t attended church that morning and alerted her family, police said. Her children searched her property for about an hour before contacting authorities and officially reporting her missing around noon.
Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos later explained the first steps of the investigation, which involved detectives specializing in homicides, at the victim’s home.
I was really struck by what the authorities shared during the press conference on February 2nd. They explained that it’s unusual for the sheriff to be involved in something like this, but the details coming out of the house were deeply worrying. What really stood out to me was how they emphasized that the initial reports and what they actually discovered at the scene were particularly disturbing – it wasn’t just a typical situation.
“This isn’t how things usually work,” Nanos explained. “Normally, our homicide team only investigates when someone has died, when there’s a body. In this case, we sent them out solely based on what the surveyors reported.”
After looking into what happened, officials stated they think a crime occurred at Nancy’s house.
During a press conference on February 2nd, Nanos stated that investigators have confirmed a crime scene after processing the location. He appealed to the public for assistance, noting the community’s history of helping to solve difficult cases and asking for their support once again.
The sheriff pointed to Nancy’s difficulty walking – she couldn’t walk even a short distance on her own – as a key reason to suspect something wasn’t right with her disappearance.
He stated definitively that she didn’t simply leave on her own, emphasizing that evidence at the location suggests she didn’t leave voluntarily.
The search for Nancy is still ongoing, and officials are stressing that she requires daily medication to stay healthy, and she likely doesn’t have it with her.
During a press conference on February 2nd, Nanos explained that an 84-year-old woman under his care is facing serious health issues and urgently needs medication. Without it within 24 hours, her condition could become life-threatening.

According to Dr. Nanos, Nancy Guthrie is mentally sound and this situation isn’t related to dementia. She’s still very alert and capable. The family wants to emphasize that she didn’t simply wander off, and any physical limitations are simply due to her age.
With the search for Nancy still underway, Nanos expressed his wish for her to come home safely.
“I hope we find her safe and sound,” he emphasized, “but we cannot ignore what’s in front of us.”
The day after Nancy was reported missing, the anchor of the Today show shared how difficult this time is for her family.
Oh my gosh, I was glued to the NBC morning show today, and she finally spoke! It just broke my heart, but she was so strong. She said, speaking for her whole family, that they’re so grateful for all the love and support everyone has been sending. But honestly, all they care about right now – and I care about too, with every fiber of my being – is getting sweet Nancy home safe. Just bring Nancy home!
She expressed gratitude to law enforcement for their efforts in the case and asked anyone with information to please reach out to the Pima County Sheriff’s Department.

Jenna Bush Hager shared on the February 2nd episode of Today with Jenna & Sheinelle that she is personally close to Nancy and feels very fondly towards her.
She continued, saying they were deeply thinking of Savannah and her family, and sending their prayers to everyone affected.
Meanwhile, Sheinelle Jones emphasized the importance of community during this difficult time.

On February 2nd, he posted on Instagram asking anyone with information about the whereabouts of Savannah Guthrie’s mother, Nancy, to contact the Pima County Sheriff’s Department in Arizona. He also included the department’s phone number, stating that she was missing.
Savannah’s former colleague, Hoda Kotb, also responded to the surprising announcement. She shared a heartwarming picture of Savannah and Nancy together on the Today show set. In a simple message on Instagram on February 2nd, Hoda posted a red heart and praying hands emoji.
Police have labeled Nancy’s home in Arizona a crime scene, but they don’t think the public needs to be worried.

On Feb. 2, Pima County police shared a series of updates on the timeline of Nancy’s disappearance.
According to the Pima County Sheriff’s Office, investigators now think the woman was likely taken from her home against her will, potentially while she was sleeping. They are currently investigating the possibility that she was kidnapped.
After news broke that Nancy might have been taken from her home in Arizona while she was asleep, Savannah made a heartfelt plea.
In a recent Instagram post on February 2nd, she shared her faith, writing, “We believe in the power of prayer, in people coming together with love and hope, and in the goodness of humanity. Most importantly, we believe in God.”
As many of you know, my heart is incredibly heavy right now. We lost my mom, Nancy, and she was truly a remarkable woman – someone with strong beliefs who lived her faith beautifully. I’m so grateful for all the love and prayers you’ve sent our way. Knowing you’re holding us in your thoughts and praying for her comfort means the world, and we really believe those prayers are lifting her spirit even now.
She added, “we need you.”
To conclude her plea, Savannah shared a Bible verse from Isaiah.
She shared a verse from Isaiah, writing, ‘He will keep those with steadfast hearts and unwavering trust in the Lord in perfect peace.’ She believed this message held timeless wisdom for everyone.
Savannah continued, “Bring her home.”
Pima County Sheriff Nanos stated that DNA evidence was discovered at Nancy’s home, which is now being treated as a crime scene.
We collected samples and are hoping they contain enough DNA to help us identify what we’re looking for, he told NBC News in a report on Today on February 3rd.
At a press conference held two days after Nancy went missing, Nanos explained what happened leading up to her disappearance.
According to Nanos, the doorbell camera stopped working at 1:47 a.m., just about four hours after she got back from a family visit, as she explained in a press conference on February 5th.
The software identified someone at the door, but the video was automatically deleted because Nancy didn’t have a paid subscription. However, the representative assured her they were still working to recover the footage.
The sheriff explained that Nancy’s pacemaker app lost connection with her phone at 2:28 a.m. Later, at 11:56 a.m., her family found she was missing, and they called 911 at 12:03 p.m. to report it to the Pima County Sheriff’s Department.
About ten minutes after receiving the initial report, he explained that patrol teams would arrive on scene. From there, they’d begin a response involving both search-and-rescue and detective units.
On February 4th, Savannah, Camron, and Annie read letters meant for their mother and the people who might have taken her. The letters asked for Nancy to be returned home safely.
Oh my gosh, they finally spoke! I saw the video on Instagram, and it just broke my heart. She said they’re doing everything to get her back, and they’re willing to talk to anyone who can help. But honestly, it’s terrifying because you hear about how easily things can be faked online these days. They just need proof, you know? They need to know she’s okay and that whoever has her is actually telling the truth. It’s all I can think about – just knowing she’s alive. I’m praying they get the answers they deserve.
My mom is the center of our world and everything to us. Her health is really delicate, especially her heart, and she’s in pain all the time. Right now, she doesn’t have any medicine, but she desperately needs it to stay alive and feel better.
The next day, Camron confirmed in a separate video that the family was still “waiting for contact.”
We’re asking whoever has our mother to please contact us. We haven’t received any direct communication, and we need to establish a way to connect so we can begin to resolve this situation.
During a press conference on February 5th, FBI agent Heith Janke announced the arrest of Derrick Callella from California. Callella is accused of sending fake texts as part of an attempt to profit from the situation, and authorities are investigating a detailed ransom letter shared with TMZ as a serious threat. Callella has not yet entered a plea and was released on a $20,000 bond.
However, he noted, the Guthrie family was “still waiting for communication.”
On February 7th, the day officials told Today they had searched Annie’s Arizona home as a routine part of the investigation, Savannah posted a new video on Instagram suggesting they’d received what they asked for.
Holding hands with Camron and Annie, she said in the video, “We got your message and we understand. Please, bring our mother back to us so we can celebrate with her. That’s the only thing that will bring us peace.”
And if her intentions weren’t clear, Savannah added, “This is very valuable to us and we will pay.”
Investigators shared surveillance photos of a person of interest in the case on February 10th.
Footage from a camera on Nancy’s property shows a person wearing a ski mask and carrying a backpack walking up to the house. The individual then appears to punch the camera, breaking it. Police had previously noted the camera was damaged when they arrived.
For the past eight days, the FBI and Pima County Sheriff’s Department have been working with private companies to find any lost, damaged, or hidden images and videos from Nancy Guthrie’s home. This effort was necessary because recording devices had been removed. They were able to recover the video from data still stored on the system’s servers, according to a statement shared with TopMob News.
“Working with our partners,” the note continued, “law enforcement has uncovered these previously inaccessible new images showing an armed individual appearing to have tampered with the camera at Nancy Guthrie’s front door the morning of her disappearance.”
Two days after the FBI shared video of the person who went near Nancy’s house, investigators provided a description of the suspect.
As a dedicated follower of this case, I’ve been keeping up with the details, and the FBI’s Phoenix office shared some key information on X yesterday. They described the person they’re looking for as a man around 5’9″ to 5’10” tall with an average build. A really noticeable detail is that he was carrying a black ‘Ozark Trail Hiker Pack’ backpack – it looked like a 25-liter size in the video.
The FBI is now offering a $100,000 reward – up from $50,000 – for information that helps find Nancy Guthrie or leads to the arrest and conviction of anyone involved in her disappearance.
After Nancy had been missing for over two weeks, Pima County Sheriff Nanos released a statement to explain who might be connected to the case.
In a statement on February 16th, authorities confirmed that the entire Guthrie family – including all siblings and their spouses – have been ruled out as suspects in this case. They noted the family has been fully cooperative and are themselves considered victims.
The gloves discovered close to Nancy’s house didn’t seem to connect with the rest of the evidence in the case, police discovered.
On March 2nd, Pima County Sheriff Nanos explained to KVOA, the local NBC station, that about three weeks prior, they initially thought a pair of gloves found near a house – roughly two miles away – belonged to a restaurant. The gloves contained DNA evidence.
Although some people noticed the gloves in the doorbell footage looked similar to those worn by the suspect, Nanos dismissed this as just a guess. Investigators had already identified the glove’s owner—an employee at a local restaurant—and confirmed they weren’t connected to the crime.
After a human bone was discovered about seven miles from Nancy’s home on May 7th, investigators thoroughly examined the area, but they later determined it wasn’t connected to the case.
According to a Tucson Police Department spokesperson, the evidence they found doesn’t suggest any criminal activity. They described it as relating to an investigation of prehistoric artifacts and anthropology.
