Jennifer Lopez Gets Emotional About Twins Max, Emme Going to College

Jennifer Lopezis getting real about becoming an empty nester.

Jennifer Lopez, 56, shared that preparing her 18-year-old twins, Max and Emme (whose father is Marc Anthony), for college this fall has been a very emotional experience. She initially thought she was prepared for them to leave home, but it’s been more difficult than she expected.

Jennifer Lopez shared on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen on June 8th that her children are very independent. She explained that she’s helped them become self-sufficient, giving them both a strong foundation and the freedom to explore, and that she feels good about supporting them in this way as a parent.

As Jennifer Lopez began planning for her children’s high school graduation, she was struck by how quickly time had passed.

She explained that she was trying to write something for the graduation program, but she kept getting too emotional to finish. She admitted she was easily brought to tears, and felt like crying even as she spoke.

The twins and Jennifer Lopez, who famously dated Alex Rodriguez for four years after her 2014 split from Marc Anthony and then briefly reconnected with Ben Affleck before their second breakup in 2024, have worked well together as a team for a long time.

It’s a really emotional moment for me. It’s always been the three of us, a constant in my life. So many people have come and gone, but we’ve always been there for each other.

Jennifer Lopez is excited to be a part of this important moment in her twins’ lives and has said she’s planning to help Max and Emme move into their college dorms.

I was chatting with Jimmy Kimmel recently, and I shared that we’ve got plenty of sheets at home. We’re currently in the process of helping the kids pack up their rooms, letting them choose all the things they want to bring to their dorms for college. It’s a big moment, getting them ready to move on and create their own spaces!

Although it’s a little sad to see her kids grow up and become independent, the singer of “On The Floor” is thrilled to watch her twins mature and start their adult lives.

She told Kimmel she vividly remembered feeling eager to leave home and pursue her own path when she was that age. She explained that people kept telling her it would be awful to go away to college, but she was excited and thought it would be a wonderful experience.

Honestly, I just want them to be happy and chase whatever makes them tick! They’ve got these amazing dreams, you know? Things they really want to accomplish, and I just know it’s all going to be incredible. I can feel it!
