With the grand reveal of the Switch 2, Nintendo has acknowledged a rather bothersome habit they aim to curb right from its debut.
After long periods of anticipation, the Japanese gaming company unveiled the Nintendo Switch 2 in a brief video. The video showcased the design of the new console, a sneak peek at the upcoming Mario Kart game, and also confirmed that the device can play games from its previous versions.
Additionally, it’s been mentioned that a Nintendo Direct event is scheduled for April, during which they are likely to reveal their initial release lineup.
This development has sparked considerable enthusiasm among fans, suggesting that the launch date for Switch 2 might not be too distant.
Yet, similar to other console releases, securing one might prove incredibly challenging – a hurdle that Nintendo aims to help regular consumers overcome by curbing unwelcome behavior during the process.
Nintendo Switch 2 boss will “take all possible measures” to fight scalpers

According to a report by Nikkei, as shared by VGC, Nintendo’s President, Shuntaro Furukawa, has indicated to the media in Japan that measures will be implemented to discourage reselling of the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 at inflated prices.
Furukawa stated that, using our existing knowledge about scalpers and similar situations, we’ll do everything reasonable to ensure proper preparation.
Translating that into simpler, conversational language: Scalping refers to purchasing an item primarily to sell it later at a markup (higher price) for financial gain.
Primarily, it occurs during product debuts, causing issues for both the initial Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 5 upon their release.
Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, Sony’s next-generation console faced severe supply shortages, lasting for several months. In many instances, the resale prices of these consoles were even doubled on various marketplaces.
Nintendo expresses worry that a similar situation as before might occur when they release the Switch 2, and they are taking steps to prevent this from happening.
It’s still undecided how we’ll handle this situation. Some approaches used by producers involve limiting each card or household to only one unit.
An alternative approach could involve linking purchases to an email or a Nintendo account. This might mean that pre-orders are exclusively made available via Nintendo Switch Online, similar to how they distributed the NES and SNES controllers.
Previously, it was mentioned by Nikkei that the launch of Switch 2 had been postponed from March 2025, in order to prevent any shortage of units at the time of release. In July 2024, Furukawa confirmed that Nintendo is actively working to ensure a sufficient supply of devices will be available when it goes on sale.
To prevent reselling, it’s crucial for us to manufacture enough products to satisfy customer needs, which remains our approach as it was last year.” (He stated this at the time)
Beyond our current plans, we’re also exploring additional actions that could be feasible within the confines of local laws and rules, tailoring them to the unique conditions of each area.
Despite facing challenges in manufacturing enough Nintendo Switch hardware for the past two years due to semiconductor component shortages, that issue has since been addressed.
Currently, we’re not anticipating that the lack of parts will cause major disruptions in the manufacturing process of our new model.
2025 marks the anticipated release date for the new Nintendo Switch model, and we’re excitedly looking forward to a Nintendo Direct presentation on April 2nd, 2025. Keep an eye out for updates!
