We’ve gotten our first glimpse of the upcoming adventure film, Heart of the Beast. Directed by the filmmaker behind The Fast and the Furious, the movie will hit theaters this September.
GQ recently published an interview and photos featuring Brad Pitt in his new film, Heart of the Beast. The movie follows Pitt as a retired Army Special Forces soldier who returns to civilian life with his combat dog after a tragic accident in the Alaskan wilderness. The photos showcase Pitt, his canine co-star, and the stunning New Zealand landscapes used for filming. Heart of the Beast will be released in theaters on September 25, 2026.
David Ayers Calls Brad Pitt a ‘Beast’ in New Action Adventure Film
Director David Ayer praised Brad Pitt’s performance, saying he fully embodied the intensity suggested by the film’s title and delivered a truly memorable performance. In an interview with GQ, Ayer described Pitt as a “beast” who was unusually vulnerable and authentic. Many viewers have commented on how raw, believable, and deeply moving Pitt’s performance is.
Brad Pitt and David Ayer worked together back in 2014 on the film Fury. Ayer recently discussed how both he and Pitt have grown creatively over the last ten years. He explained that Fury was a large-scale war movie with lots of action, while their current project is much more intimate, involving just Pitt, a camera, and a dog. He described it as having ‘nowhere to hide’.
Ayer drew a comparison between this film and Brad Pitt’s recent hit, F1. He explained that Pitt went from a large, high-energy world of racing – with cars, crowds, and noise – to a much more intimate and visually delicate film. While the new film explores complex emotions, Ayer didn’t want to label it as simply ‘suffering,’ noting there’s also a lot of joy and hope present. He described the project as a significant evolution and added that it was likely the most challenging film he’s ever directed.
Ayer commended Pitt’s dedication to the role, especially considering his age of 62. He shared that Pitt performed most of his own stunts, with only a few shots requiring a double. This physically demanding work was all Pitt, and Ayer, having worked with many actors, recognized the exceptional commitment Pitt demonstrated, going above and beyond what was expected.
Ayers Also Discusses the Dangers of Working with a Dog on Set
While Brad Pitt gets a lot of attention, the movie Heart of the Beast also features a remarkable canine actor: Odin, played by four different dogs. Director David Ayer explained that the main dog, Uber, was the father of the three others who shared the role: Seeka, Ryker, and Hondo.
He admitted his films are often violent, but reassured viewers that Odin will be alright. He jokingly revealed, “The dog lives!” but also emphasized the movie has a deeply emotional conclusion. He shared that even his toughest friends were moved to tears while watching it, saying he’s never had a film affect audiences so strongly.
Heart of the Beast will be released in theaters on Sept. 25, 2026.
