Cartoon Network Revival Releases New Episodes Early on Disney+ And Hulu

Bringing back popular animated shows is a major strategy for streaming services like Cartoon Network, Hulu, and Disney+. Hulu has successfully revived series like King of the Hill and The Wonderfully Weird World of Gumball with new seasons. Meanwhile, Cartoon Network has gained renewed attention with Regular Show: The Lost Tapes, which continues the story of Mordecai and Rigby after the original show ended. Surprisingly, one of the biggest animated revivals this summer came sooner than expected, thanks to a joint effort from Hulu and Disney+.

Originally, Adventure Time: Side Quests was scheduled to premiere on Disney+ and Hulu on June 29th. However, five episodes unexpectedly appeared on Disney+ recently. Disney hasn’t explained why these episodes became available weeks early, leading fans to wonder if it was intentional or an error. What Are The Side Quests?

If you’re unfamiliar, Adventure Time: Side Quests is a new series that shows what life was like for Finn and Jake when they were younger. Recent Adventure Time stories have become quite dark and mature – for instance, Adventure Time: Fionna and Cake received a TV-14 rating due to its more adult themes. This new prequel offers a return to the lighter, more whimsical side of the Land of Oooo, and here’s a look at the episodes that have recently become available on Disney+ and Hulu.

  • Game Night – Lady Rainicorn Spices up Game Night for Princess Bubblegum, Marceline, and Lumpy Space Princess
  • Punchy – Finn and Jake suspect Princess Bubblegum’s robot is a traitor when it starts acting strangely
  • Tiny Negs – Jake hires a bard to sing about Finn’s heroics but ends up being the focus of his minstrely ire
  • Wedgie Tree – Finn confronts his mortality when he gets stuck in a tree and can’t get down
  • Sweet Tooth – Finn and Jake venture to the dream realm to defeat Mansion Feely

The new Adventure Time prequel series isn’t just sporting a fresh animation style as it follows young Jake and Finn – it’s also making some significant casting changes. Although most of the original voice actors are returning, a new actor, Sasha Knight (known for her work on My Little Pony and The Santa Clauses), will be voicing Finn the Human, taking over from Jeremy Shada, who originally played the character. This change is fitting, given that the series is set far in the past.
