Dragon Ball Officially Brings Back Broly With a New Legendary Super Saiyan Design

I was really excited to see the original Super Saiyan Broly movie back in theaters after all these years – it’s been 33 years since its first release, and this new version feels like a real treat for fans.

The official Dragon Ball website announced a new Broly figure inspired by the 1994 movie, Dragon Ball Z: Broly – Second Coming. This figure is part of the G×materia Series and will be available exclusively as a prize in crane games.

The return of Super Saiyan Broly is finally here, featuring a design inspired by the new Dragon Ball Daima series.

After 33 Years, Dragon Ball Revives the Original Super Saiyan Broly in New 2026 Release

I was excited to see that Super Saiyan Broly in his Full Power form is finally joining the G×materia line of figures! That’s what the official announcement on the Dragon Ball website said, anyway.

This figure perfectly captures Broly’s incredible power, as seen in Dragon Ball Z: Broly – Second Coming. It features sparkling details and dynamic sculpting, presenting a brand new and striking look for the character.

Broly started as a villain created just for the 1994 Dragon Ball movie, but he quickly became incredibly popular with fans. While this is a great thing, it also put pressure on Toei Animation to continuously release new movies featuring him to take advantage of that popularity.

The movie Dragon Ball Z: Broly – Second Coming came out in Japan on March 12, 1994, following The Legendary Super Saiyan by a year. Four months later, on July 9, 1994, the final film in the Broly series, Dragon Ball Z: Bio-Broly, was released.

Despite being quickly produced, Bio-Broly is widely considered one of the weakest DBZ films of the 1990s—perhaps even worse than some others.

However, the film does some interesting things, like giving Goten and Trunks a surprisingly large role. This was a welcome shift for the Dragon Ball series, which usually centers on Goku and Vegeta. We didn’t see this focus again until the 2022 movie, Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero, which featured grown-up Gohan and Piccolo.

Recently, the world of Dragon Ball expanded its official storyline with the 2018 movie, Dragon Ball Super: Broly. Unlike the older Bio-Broly film, Dragon Ball Super: Broly was a critical and fan favorite, praised for its stunning animation and constant excitement. Many fans consider it a highlight of the franchise.

Sadly, a director for the popular anime One Piece passed away in August 2025, but the news wasn’t announced until November of that year. In 2026, Crunchyroll honored him at the Anime Awards with the Global Impact Award, recognizing his significant and lasting influence on audiences and the anime world.

You can watch the Dragon Ball anime series, including Dragon Ball Daima and Dragon Ball Super, on Crunchyroll. A new installment is planned for release in the fall of 2026 and is now being made.
