Emily Blunt Shares Which of Her Movies She’s Let Her Kids Watch

Emily Blunt‘s movie nights with her kids? Groundbreaking. 

Indeed, the Devil Wears Prada actress revealed that her films have been part of her quality time with her and husband John Krasinski‘s daughters Hazel, 12, and Violet, 9.

Emily Blunt revealed that her daughters have watched all of her popular movies, including The Devil Wears Prada, Into the Woods, Mary Poppins, and Jungle Cruise. She shared this at the New York City premiere of Disclosure Day on June 8th.

“They’ve seen the tame ones,” she confirmed before teasing, “I haven’t shown them Sicario yet.”

However, when it comes to the movie Disclosure Day—where Blunt plays a meteorologist who uncovers a government conspiracy after gaining supernatural powers—she doesn’t think her daughters are ready to watch it just yet.

She confessed she’d be hesitant to let her child watch the movie, given her character’s difficult journey. She believes the experiences would be too intense and upsetting. It’s a struggle, she explained, because her child needs her to be a mother, not someone transformed by alien abilities.

In fact, she even chose to practice her extraterrestrial language for the Steven Spielberg-directed film outside of their home.

“I practiced in private with various clicking skills,” Blunt previously revealed to TopMob. “Actually, the only person who was privy to my weird sounds was Steven, and our sound designer. But I think if my children started doing that, it would unravel me completely. I would be spellbound and also terrified.”

Despite not intending to teach her children the fictional language from the show, the 43-year-old—who married a former star of The Office in 2010—recently focused on teaching them about empathy.

As a lifestyle expert, one of the most important things I focus on is creating a safe space for people to truly be themselves. I always let those I work with know that I’m just as interested in hearing about their struggles and setbacks as I am their wins. I want them to feel comfortable sharing everything – the good, the bad, and the messy – without feeling like they need to exaggerate or downplay anything. It’s about genuine curiosity and acceptance, and letting people know they can be authentically themselves around me.

I simply want people to know they can always rely on me for support, and that I’ll be a safe and understanding presence. I hope they’ll then share that same kindness with others, because being kind is the most important thing.

The new film Disclosure Day, featuring Colman Domingo, Colin Firth, Josh O’Connor, and others, will be released in theaters on June 12th.

While Blunt’s Mary Poppins voice is a hit with everyone else, her daughters weren’t impressed with her villainous role in The Devil Wears Prada, actually thinking she was the “meanest person” they’d ever met.

In a funny incident, their daughter Hazel believed Krasinski was an accountant after a parent mentioned The Office during school drop-off. When Krasinski denied working with the parent, Hazel accused him of lying, insisting the person had said they knew him from the office.

Emily Blunt wouldn’t mind if her daughters, Hazel and Violet, chose a different path than she and John Krasinski. She acknowledges that a career in acting is challenging. In a 2023 interview with Harper’s Bazaar U.K., Blunt admitted she’d advise people away from the profession, explaining it can be both difficult and disheartening, especially given the focus on appearance and the personal nature of criticism. Ultimately, though, she and Krasinski simply want their daughters to be happy and pursue what they love. Even if Violet and Hazel don’t pursue careers in the film industry, they were already a part of their dad John Krasinski’s 2024 movie, IF, which is about imaginary friends.

Krasinski explained to TopMob News at the film’s premiere that he noticed his daughters gradually losing interest in imaginary play during the COVID-19 pandemic. “I watched my kids retreat into this amazing world that Emily and I weren’t included in,” he said. “Their imaginary games started to fade, and they began asking bigger questions about the world around them.”

He realized this meant they were growing up and considering letting go of their childhoods. “I told Emily, ‘That’s what growing up is!'” Krasinski shared. “But I wanted them to know that magical world they created is always there for them, and they can return to it whenever they want.”

Krasinski also told Today that some of the characters in IF were inspired by his daughters’ imaginary friends, and he included them in the filmmaking process. “They saw my early sketches, I pitched them the movie idea, and they even gave me feedback on the trailer,” he said. “It was a wonderful experience.”

For John Krasinski and Emily Blunt, becoming parents has been the most impactful role they’ve taken on. Krasinski shared with People after the birth of their daughter Hazel that it was a turning point. He realized he was now a role model and felt a responsibility to set a good example, motivating him to constantly strive to be a better person.
