As a seasoned gamer with a hearty appetite for all things ‘Alien’, I must say, my fellow space-faring comrades, that this news has sent a shiver of excitement down my spine! With memories still fresh of the pulse-pounding encounters in the first edition, the prospect of a revamped and updated version of Alien: The Roleplaying Game is nothing short of a cosmic event.
As a passionate gamer, I’m thrilled to share that I’ll be diving back into the terrifying universe of Alien with the upcoming new edition from Free League Publishing! They’ve just revealed their plans to unleash an updated version of Alien: The Roleplaying Game, with a Kickstarter campaign set to roll out later this year. Although specifics about the game remain under wraps, the pre-launch page hints at enhanced and revised core rules. To top it off, Free League is also working on Rapture Protocol, an exhilarating new cinematic scenario for us gamers to explore! I can hardly wait to get my hands on these exciting additions to one of my favorite games!
In essence, “The Alien Role-Playing Game” operates on the basis of the Year Zero Engine, a unique game system by Free League that features rolling a set of six-sided dice based on specific skills or traits. The aim is to get at least one ‘six’ in order to succeed in a task. The original version of “Alien RPG” incorporated a stress system as well, where players accumulated stress dice upon failure. However, a roll of ‘1’ on a stress die triggered an entry on the trauma table, which could result in severe repercussions. The game’s combat is typically swift and brutal, often leading to adverse outcomes when players encounter Xenomorphs or other alien threats in confined areas. It was launched in 2019 and bagged the ENnie Award for ‘Best Game’.
As a gaming enthusiast, I’m pretty pumped about the recent announcement of the new RPG, which seems perfectly timed with the upcoming release of “Alien: Romulus” – a movie that has Cailee Spaeny, David Jonsson, Archie Renaux, Isabela Merced, Spike Fearn, and Aileen Wu in it. This movie takes place on an abandoned space station where a crew of space colonists accidentally discover a Xenomorph lurking there. “Alien: Romulus” is set to hit theaters on August 16th. I can’t wait!
