House of the Dragon season 3 star reveals new episodes embrace “all-out war” – as showrunner affirms when Game of Thrones spin-off will end

Ewan Mitchell, a star of House of the Dragon, hinted that season 3 will feature a massive, full-scale war. Meanwhile, the show’s creator, Ryan Condal, has revealed that it will be the second-to-last season.

This show takes place almost 200 years before the original series and tells the story of a brutal civil war within the Targaryen family, known as the Dance of the Dragons.

The long-awaited Battle of the Gullet – a fierce naval fight fans have been expecting since last season – will kick off season 3, pitting Team Black against Team Green. After two seasons of buildup, this major clash is finally here.

In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, showrunner Ryan Condal claimed the upcoming episode will likely be the most ambitious and complex ever produced for television.

Ewan Mitchell, the actor who plays Aemond Targaryen, described the latest episode as an immediate and intense escalation into full-scale conflict. He said it ‘just blitzes’ into war from the very beginning.

According to Condal, the show’s creator, season 4 will be the final season.

I can’t say for sure what others are planning with the show or at HBO, but yes, that is definitely what I intend to do.

I’m so excited for season 3! We’re getting more of our favorites back – Emma D’Arcy will be returning as Rhaenyra, and I can’t wait to see Matt Smith as Daemon again. Of course, Olivia Cooke will be back as Alicent, and along with the new addition of Mitchell, it’s shaping up to be an amazing season!

James Norton is joining the show as Lord Ormund Hightower, expanding the cast.

Season 3 of House of the Dragon is coming to HBO Max in June. You can currently stream seasons 1 and 2 on Sky and NOW. If you’re interested in subscribing, you can find information about signing up for Sky TV.
