Is Diego Maradona coming to FC 25? Rumours explained

Among the exceptional elite football players who stand out globally, there aren’t many. You can count them on one hand: Lionel Messi, Pelé, and undeniably, the Argentine maestro Diego Maradona.

Currently, there’s chatter indicating that EA Sports FC could potentially reintroduce the FIFA video game series, which has been absent for some time.

Following an extraordinary career spanning several decades filled with football accolades such as a World Cup victory, numerous Serie A titles, record-breaking transfer deals, and some of the most remarkable goals ever seen on a football field, the legendary Maradona regrettably passed away at the age of 60 in 2020.

Throughout his illustrious career, he was affectionately called ‘The Golden Boy.’ Over the years, his fame and myth have persisted.

Fans worldwide eagerly anticipate the potential return of Maradona to the EA Sports FC game, as this could offer them an opportunity to recreate some of the legendary moments from his career in football simulation.

Well, after years of silence, rumours have now started to circulate and suggest it could happen.

Is Diego Maradona coming to FC 25? Rumours explained

As a gaming enthusiast, I haven’t received any official word yet from EA about Diego Maradona joining EA Sports FC 25. But there’s been a buzz in the gaming community hinting at an upcoming announcement.

The main buzz circulating is originating from a well-known source, DonkTrading of FC 25, who hinted that Maradona could make an appearance with a score of 97. It’s uncertain if this will be exclusive to the Ultimate Team or a part of the game as a whole.

Some supporters are theorizing that El Diego could make an appearance during the latest Grassroots Greats promotional event, which was initially hinted at by FutSheriff.

In March 2022, there was a legal disagreement about Maradona’s likeness, which led Electronic Arts to take him out of FIFA 22. Consequently, three cards showcasing the legendary Argentine player were pulled from the game.

In an update shared in March 2022, I, as a fan, learned that EA Sports FIFA 22 is temporarily removing Diego Maradona from appearing in FIFA Ultimate Team Packs, future FUT content, and the Soccer Aid World XI, all due to ongoing legal issues with a third party.

“As such, Diego Maradona Icon Items will no longer be made available in Packs, SBCs and FUT Draft.

As a devoted admirer, I’ve consistently utilized Maradona’s likeness and image, always ensuring that we were operating under legitimate license agreements. Initially, this was done in direct coordination with Maradona himself, and later, with the global company authorized to manage his image rights.

It’s now believed that the legal dispute has come to an end.

Of course, this doesn’t necessarily indicate an immediate announcement, and it’s quite plausible that Electronic Arts might hold off on including Maradona until the next FIFA game version, should he be incorporated at all. As ever, we can only wait to see what unfolds in time.

You can find the game EA Sports FC 25 on multiple platforms such as the PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and Microsoft Windows.
