Now, another beloved star is throwing their hat in the ring, with Fan Expo confirming that Kurt Russell, star of The Thing, Escape From New York, Big Trouble in Little China, Tombstone, and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, will officially be making his first-ever convention appearance this August for FAN EXPO Chicago.
Kurt Russell will be meeting fans, signing autographs, and taking photos at FAN EXPO Chicago. He’s also scheduled to participate in a live panel discussion. Fans have been eager to see Russell at a convention, thanks to his memorable roles in films like Escape from New York, The Thing, and Big Trouble in Little China. This appearance will bring him back to Chicago, where he previously filmed Backdraft in 1991. Opportunities to experience Kurt Russell, including autographs and photos, will be available for purchase starting Thursday, June 11th at 10 a.m. Central Time on FANEXPOChicago.com.
Kurt Russell Making First Ever Con Appearance This Year

Russell isn’t the only famous face coming to FAN EXPO Chicago this August! He’ll be joined by his frequent collaborator, John Carpenter, with whom he’s made four films and the Elvis TV movie. Two more people who worked with them – Nick Castle, a co-writer on Escape From New York and Escape From LA, and Dean Cundy, the cinematographer for films like The Thing, Big Trouble in Little China, and Escape From New York – will also be there. This is a fantastic chance for fans to meet four key creative minds behind these classic movies all in one place.
FAN EXPO Chicago will feature a fantastic lineup of stars, including Mel Gibson and Danny Glover from Lethal Weapon, Karl Urban and the cast of The Boys, and William Shatner of Star Trek. Plus, celebrate 25 years with Elijah Wood, Sean Astin, Dominic Monaghan, and Billy Boyd – the four Hobbits from The Lord of the Rings! The event runs from August 14th to 16th at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center.
