The second season of Marshals follows Kayce’s ongoing journey in Montana. Created by Spencer Hudnut, Luke Grimes’ CBS series premiered during the 2025-2026 television season and quickly gained popularity. By extending the Yellowstone universe to Montana – while Beth and Rip’s story takes place in Texas – the show successfully builds on the Dutton family’s legacy. Although the series centers around John III’s son, it also includes a mix of both returning and new characters.
Kayce and his son, Tate, continue to live in East Camp, the same place Kayce shared with Monica during the later seasons of Yellowstone, which keeps Thomas Rainwater and Mo involved in their lives. The new series, Marshals, introduced several new characters – Logan Marshall-Green, Tatanka Means, Ash Santos, and Arielle Kebbel play Pete Calvin, Miles Kittle, Andrea Cruz, and Belle Skinner. Now that the first season has finished, viewers are eager to see what happens next when Marshals returns.
Marshals Season 2 Has Already Been Confirmed By CBS
Originally, the new series Marshals, the first Yellowstone spin-off taking place in the present day, centered around the character Kayce Dutton. However, the show’s creators successfully adjusted its direction to fit a standard network television format by focusing less on the Dutton family and more on the day-to-day work of Calvin’s team. This means Marshals has largely become a traditional police procedural set within the world of Yellowstone. While some longtime fans of the original series haven’t embraced this change, it has attracted a wider audience, making it a very popular show.
Given its success, CBS quickly renewed Marshals for a second season. This early renewal allowed the writers to plan a satisfying finale, even with dramatic cliffhangers, without worrying about the show being cancelled before they could resolve them.
When Will Marshals Season 2 Release?
Even though it’s starting a bit later than originally planned, the network is moving forward with season two of Marshals. The Yellowstone spin-off will now return in the fall of 2026, instead of mid-season, according to CBS’s new schedule. While an exact date hasn’t been announced, it will continue to air on Sunday nights, likely because of the good ratings the network has seen when Marshals airs alongside Tracker.
What Marshals Season 2’s Story Could Be
The first season of Marshals focused on Kayce finding his footing and the team learning to work together. Initially, some team members doubted him, but by the end of the season, he’d earned their trust. This sets the stage for season 2 to explore their strong working relationships more fully, alongside the cases they investigate each week. The mystery surrounding who owns East Camp will also be a central storyline, particularly as Kayce develops closer bonds with Tom Weaver and his daughter, Dolly.
It’s still uncertain whether the highly anticipated crossover will happen in season 2 of Marshals. Now that Beth and Rip have relocated to Texas in Dutton Ranch, the show’s creators need to find a clever way to bring John Dutton’s children back together. This also depends on whether the new Yellowstone spin-off featuring Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser gets picked up for another season.
