New Harry Potter Reboot Footage Reveals More of the One Thing The Movies Wasted

HBO Max has released a new trailer for the upcoming Harry Potter series, set to premiere during the Christmas season. The trailer was part of a larger promotional video showcasing upcoming shows like Lanterns, House of the Dragon, and The Pitt. This new Harry Potter series, beginning with a reimagining of The Philosopher’s Stone, promises to explore aspects of the story that the original films didn’t fully cover.

I was so thrilled to see the restored footage from the second Gryffindor versus Hufflepuff Quidditch match! It always felt like a loss when Chris Columbus cut it from the original movie, especially because it really highlighted Harry’s growing suspicions about Snape. It’s fantastic that it’s been added back in. We get some wonderful moments – seeing Ron, Hermione, and Harry by the moving stairs at Hogwarts, Harry walking onto the Quidditch pitch, the team getting ready before the match, and even a glimpse of Harry chatting with Mr. Ollivander in his shop. It’s a real treat for fans!

Harry Potter’s Reboot Can Finally Bring Justice For Quidditch

Adding the Hufflepuff Quidditch match isn’t just great because it brings back a piece of the original story; it also helps in two other important ways. As we’ve seen, the match is crucial to Harry’s growing distrust of Snape in the book. Snape was the referee, and this happened shortly after a Slytherin match where Harry believed Snape was trying to curse him. This fueled Harry – and his friends Ron and Hermione – to worry something even worse was coming, which explains why he seems so hesitant in the new trailer. Right after the match, Harry also saw Snape secretly leave Hogwarts and meet with Quirrell in the Forbidden Forest, where he demanded updates on getting past Fluffy. This event, which further confirmed Harry’s suspicions, was also missing from the film.

As a huge Harry Potter fan, I was always a little bummed that the original movies skimped on the Quidditch matches – I heard it was because they were expensive and took too long to film. So, seeing the new Philosopher’s Stone reboot really highlight a full Quidditch match in all the trailers? That immediately tells me they’re listening to fans and aiming for something different this time around. There’s been a lot of debate about whether this reboot is necessary, and some people are worried it’ll be too similar to the originals. But honestly, anything that shows they’re willing to add back in what we loved is a win in my book. And let’s be real, more scenes of Snape being… well, Snape, and unfairly penalizing Gryffindor, is just the cherry on top!
