The Pokémon Company announced during the 2026 Nintendo Direct that is receiving free DLC in August 2026, along with a series of paid content injections available through an Expansion Pass.
Fans have been expecting Pokémon Pokopia to receive DLC since launch. This was due to the game being set in the Kanto region, but missing several key locations, such as Lavender Town. also claimed that big chunks of Kanto were being saved for a DLC expansion, though they didn’t know the form it would take.
Pokémon Pokopia DLC Lets Players Dive Beneath The Waves
The Nintendo Direct presentation in June 2026 didn’t have many new announcements for Pokémon fans. While Pokémon Winds & Waves won’t be released until next year and there were no updates on Pokémon Champions, a trailer was shown for the first downloadable content for Pokémon Pokopia. This DLC allows the Pokémon Ditto to explore underwater areas.
In August 2026, a free update will be released that adds Dive to the game, allowing players to build and grow plants on the ocean floor. They can be joined by Pokémon, though the only ones shown in the trailer are Water-types, which makes sense, as they’re the ones most likely to be able to breathe in that environment.
The trailer concluded with a glimpse of Manaphy, a rare Pokémon originally featured in Pokémon Diamond & Pearl. It will probably be part of the new story, and as a Pokémon in Pokémon Pokopia, it will likely appear in the player’s underwater town as a friendly visitor.
The Pokémon Pokopia DLC Kicks Off In August
The Dive update is releasing with new content from the Pokémon Pokopia Expansion Pass. This pass will add content regularly, starting with Bubbly Basin, a brand new underwater town to explore. Another update is planned for later in 2026, bringing new features to the game – though it won’t include any new towns. Finally, an update in 2027 will add another town to Pokémon Pokopia.
Okay, so the Pokémon Pokopia Expansion Pass is out, but honestly, I’m not sure it’s worth getting just yet. From what I’ve seen, you mostly just get some cute Ditto-themed stuff for decorating, and some Pokemetal slabs. I think I’ll wait and see if they add more to it before I spend any money, just to be safe.
It’s interesting to see the Pokémon Pokopia DLC taking a new approach. Since the Kanto region was designed before underwater exploration was added to Pokémon games, it didn’t have many substantial underwater areas. The game might explain this by showing a town that sank due to environmental damage, potentially making a well-known location appear in a completely new way – underwater.
