Pokémon Pokopia to Get Underwater Zones in Free Update in August, Expansion Pass Announced

Nintendo announced a big, free update for Pokémon Pokopia! The update, which includes the exciting new ability to explore underwater, was revealed in a trailer during the latest Nintendo Direct and is expected to launch in August. You can watch the trailer below.

I’m so excited about the new update! Nintendo also announced the Pokémon Pokopia Expansion Pass, and it sounds amazing. They’re adding even more to the game, including whole new towns! I’ve heard about Bubbly Basin, which is completely underwater – can you believe it? Apparently, you can find new furniture, outfits, and even meet new Pokémon there. The best part? The Expansion Pass is coming out on the Nintendo eShop later today! I can’t wait to check it out.

More new features are coming to Pokémon Pokopia in late 2026 through the expansion pass, and a further update is planned for release in 2027.

The free update lets players expand their towns underwater, letting them become even closer friends with Water-type Pokémon. You can access these new underwater areas using a new move called Dive, and once there, you’ll be able to build structures completely underwater.

Released earlier this year on the Nintendo Switch 2, Pokémon Pokopia has quickly become a huge success, selling over 2.2 million copies in its first four days. The game’s popularity has also boosted sales of the Nintendo Switch 2 console itself, and even led Koei Tecmo to increase its profit predictions for 2026, due to their contribution to the game’s development.
