Savannah Chrisley Speaks Out After Julie Chrisley’s Sentence Upheld

As I delve into the lives of the Chrisley family, it’s quite evident that they are no strangers to the limelight. From the red carpets of award shows to the bustling cityscapes of New York and Las Vegas, their journey has been nothing short of a rollercoaster ride.

Savannah Chrisley is fighting back.

Following the confirmation of her mother’s (Julie Chrisley) prison sentence by the judge, Savannah delivered a harsh critique of the court proceedings, given that the reality TV star is currently serving a seven-year term for tax evasion and bank fraud convictions in 2022.

She expressed to reporters after the September 25 hearing that it was a complete miscarriage of justice. Over and over, she’s witnessed injustices taking place, and the prosecutors here are blatantly unreasonable, showing their lack of knowledge. What transpired is an injustice, and I will persistently advocate for my parents and make as much noise as I can to ensure justice prevails.

Upon spotting her mother in the courtroom, the 27-year-old expressed, “It’s truly disheartening. As a woman, it’s particularly upsetting to witness how other women are handled within the system.

Savannah, whose father Todd Chrisley is currently serving a 12-year term due to their convictions for tax evasion and bank fraud, shared her thoughts on how the judicial system tends to sentence certain white-collar offenders.

She pointed out that it’s safe for her to return home tomorrow without causing harm to anyone. However, the question arises, ‘How severe should the punishment be, how much suffering is required?’ I hoped that today the court would factor this into their decision. Yet, unfortunately, that was not the outcome.

We attempted to contact representatives from the Chrisley family, including Julie, after her sentencing, but as of now, we haven’t received any response from them.

Initially, Julie’s sentencing was overturned by a three-judge panel from the 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Kentucky in June, offering hope to Julie and the Chrisley family. This ruling came after the judges decided that the judge at her 2022 trial had incorrectly calculated Julie’s sentence based on the length of her involvement in the case. However, ultimately, her sentencing was upheld.

According to documents obtained by TopMob News, the panel confirmed the convictions of Julie, Todd, and their accountant Peter Tarantino at the time, but they found insufficient evidence to support the ruling that Julie was an integral part of the bank fraud scheme that started in 2006.

The court didn’t specify the evidence it used to blame Julie for losses before 2007, so we can’t find it in the records either. As a result, we are overturning Julie’s sentence and sending the case back to the district court to make the necessary findings and calculations about loss, restitution, and sentencing for Julie.

Yet, upon transferring the case to the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Georgia, the judge chose not to revise Julie’s sentence according to the recent decision on the 25th of September.

After the verdict, Alex Little, the family’s lawyer, also addressed what he perceived as a confusion in assigning blame between Todd and Julie.

Speaking at the press conference, I expressed my belief that anyone who followed the trial for three weeks would agree that there were two key players. However, I strongly feel that she wasn’t the one orchestrating events, nor was she centrally involved in a manner of great significance. Sometimes, when prosecuting a husband and wife, the individual roles can become blurred. Therefore, it’s crucial to avoid this confusion.

He continued,  “I think that may have happened here a little bit that they were thrown in as the couple, and the couple got punished. I don’t think Julie got individual sentencing today.”

Instead, it was after the case was transferred to the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Georgia that the judge declined to revise Julie’s sentence on September 25, in accordance with the recent decision.

After the decision, Alex Little, the family’s lawyer, also addressed what he perceived as confusion regarding the level of responsibility between Todd and Julie.

During the press conference, he stated, “It’s clear to anyone who followed the trial for three weeks that there were two key figures involved. However, it’s hard to claim she was the mastermind or played a significant role in this case. Often, when prosecutors bring charges against a husband and wife, the specific roles they played can become blurred. It’s crucial to avoid such confusion.

He went on to say, “It seems possible that they were paired together and both received punishment, rather than Julie receiving an individual sentence today.
