Steam Machine Update Reveals Release Date Is Close

Valve originally announced the Steam Machine in November 2025, with plans to launch it in early 2026. However, in February 2026, they admitted that launch date wouldn’t happen. The delay was due to issues with the market and manufacturing, specifically shortages of parts and rising costs like oil prices. Bringing a new gaming console to market has become very challenging and expensive, but Valve now seems prepared to move forward with the Steam Machine despite these hurdles.

Valve still hasn’t officially announced when the Steam Deck will be released or how much it will cost, but it recently passed compatibility testing for the Vulkan 1.4 graphics standard. This certification usually happens right before a product launches, suggesting the Steam Deck is coming out soon. That means Valve will likely announce the release date and price very shortly.

Steam Machine Price and Release Date

As we’ve mentioned before, it’s becoming clear that the Steam Machine won’t be affordable. Leaks and reports suggest some versions of the console could cost over $1000, and that’s worrying Steam fans.

Predicting a release date is difficult, but Valve likely aims for this summer or early fall. They’ll want to avoid launching around November 19th, when GTA 6 comes out, as that game will dominate attention for weeks, if not months. While the two aren’t direct competitors, GTA 6‘s launch will overshadow everything else. We expect to hear an announcement about the release date and price within the next month. Component shortages and market issues aren’t expected to improve, so delaying the console wouldn’t be beneficial. Valve will likely have to release it soon, even if it means pricing it higher than originally planned.
