Okay, I can’t believe it, but the rumors are real! Ocarina of Time is actually getting remade! It’s coming out this year on the Switch 2, and classic Nintendo being classic Nintendo, they didn’t show a single second of gameplay. Just a trailer filled with nostalgia, which, honestly, is perfect for this game.
Most gamers know Ocarina of Time. Released in 1998 for the Nintendo 64, it’s widely considered one of the greatest games of all time and has won numerous awards. Even now, it maintains an impressive Metascore of 99. Beyond being the first 3D Zelda game, it pioneered important gameplay elements like the Z-targeting system and the ability to ride a horse across the game world.
Remakes aren’t new to us. For example, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D came out in June 2011 for the Nintendo 3DS. It included the harder ‘Master Quest’ dungeons from the GameCube version, plus new features like a Boss Challenge mode and a hint system called Visions.
It’s currently unclear if the remake will significantly change the original game or simply update the visuals while staying true to the story. While some reports suggest a release around the holiday season – possibly in November or December – we’ll have to wait for official confirmation.
