Following the success of Xenoblade Chronicles 3 four years ago, MonolithSoft has announced the next installment: Xenoblade Genesis. Coming in 2027 to the Nintendo Switch 2, this new game takes place in a unique world where everything, even the elements, originates from a force called Anima.
Naturally, humanity couldn’t just use it peacefully, and battles quickly broke out, with the Vesselai emerging as those who could wield Anima offensively. You play as a student of Leukos, who is seemingly training alongside others to become a Vesselai. They can imbue Anima crystones into their weapons to amplify their powers (and also record their emotions).
School life mainly involves training for battles and dangerous expeditions into the wilderness, where students face off against wild animals. The students all react to this harsh life in different ways: some acknowledge the necessity of fighting to survive, while others find unique ways to cope, like one student who rides a dragon and contemplates its power. There are also students struggling with personal issues, such as controlling their temper, and an opposing group who actively challenge the school’s methods.
The structure of the world is also interesting – almost like it takes place on a space station of sorts with artificial biomes. Regardless, you can traverse it with mounts, which should cut down on exploration time. As always, stay tuned for more details on Xenoblade Genesis in the coming year.
