The streaming series about Meghan Markle on Netflix, titled “With Love, Meghan,” is facing a potential cancellation due to lower-than-expected viewership and controversy. However, according to Newsweek, the show seems to be thriving, possibly because of viewers who enjoy watching it out of dislike or curiosity.
The Dismal Numbers and Rumor Mills
The debut of Meghan Markle’s Netflix series, titled With Love, Meghan, started off with disappointing ratings from viewers and critics alike. In its first five to six days, it was watched by just 526,000 households, as reported by Samba TV. This is significantly lower than the viewership of Harry and Meghan, which attracted around 2.1 million households within a similar timeframe. It’s worth mentioning that more viewers chose to watch the couple rather than just Meghan Markle herself, even though both numbers are relatively low for Netflix.

It’s not uncommon for the world’s most controversial royals, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, to find themselves in such situations. In late January 2025, an anonymous insider who had worked with Meghan Markle disclosed that they were aware of their increased marketability as a couple. The source clarified that their worth is tied to their relationship. If they ever considered separating, it would be difficult due to this factor. This revelation followed speculation about a possible divorce, which was sparked by Markle’s team suggesting a potential post-divorce memoir.
Netflix Wants Out of the Deal
Currently, there’s speculation that the show might be terminated. As reported by The Daily Beast, an insider suggested that Netflix executives are concerned due to their significant investment in the [royal couple] production. They seem uncertain about the best timing and strategy for its release.

Is there also news about the show getting another season? However, the source added that Harry and Meghan filmed multiple episodes simultaneously, meaning there isn’t a second season per se. Instead, it’s essentially an extension of season one – a common Netflix approach for releasing more content than they initially produce. Consequently, the report indicated that their overall contract has not been renewed at this time.
It’s All the Hate Watchers’ Fault!
Contrary to some criticisms, Newsweek maintains that Meghan Markle’s solo series, “With Love, Meghan,” is thriving. They argue that the show has made it onto the Top 10 Netflix TV series list in various regions, including globally, America, and Britain, despite numerous unfavorable reviews. They believe this achievement is significant because it provides a positive spin for Meghan following harsh criticisms from unbiased media outlets.
Additionally, it’s reported that Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, anticipated unfavorable reactions. Newsweek noted that despite not being critical of Prince Harry’s family, Meghan has demonstrated an ability to attract viewers, which is a positive point she can take from this experience.
But the most hilarious of all is Newsweek‘s attempt to spin it as the audience being at fault.

It seems the Duchess of Sussex has attracted viewers who enjoy critical analysis, as her show appears to be popular among them. In contrast, some of Meghan’s more critical commentators expressed that they didn’t continue watching beyond just a few episodes. (Aiming for a more neutral and less judgmental tone)
Indeed, it’s accurate. In their defense of Meghan Markle’s Netflix series, Newsweek referred to those expressing negative sentiments as “hate observers.
So far, most of the media coverage about Markle’s show has been unfavorable and criticizing. It appears that the royal couple might struggle to find media outlets willing to provide them with positive publicity.
