007: First Light Developer is “Definitely Not Done” With Hitman – CEO

Although IO Interactive has been busy with multiple ventures such as creating “007: First Light” and preparing for the release of “MindsEye”, CEO Hakan Abrak assures that the studio is far from finished with the “Hitman” series. In a conversation with IGN, Abrak stated that despite being occupied by various projects, there will undeniably be more “Hitman” content coming up in the future.

According to Abrak, the Hitman series is far from over. Despite IO Interactive’s involvement in other projects like Project Fantasy and Bond, they maintain a strong connection with Hitman. They are proud, grateful, and happy about it. However, their focus on new projects requires resources and time. But, as hinted by the recent announcement of Hitman co-op, there will definitely be more Hitman content in various forms in the future.

Currently, the studio’s focus has shifted towards creating the new James Bond game titled “007: First Light“. When questioned about the contrast between the forthcoming James Bond game and “Hitman“, Abrak explained that the upcoming title will retain some of the comedic elements present in Agent 47’s escapades. He also noted, however, that Bond’s humor will have a more quintessentially British flavor compared to what is usually seen in the “Hitman” series.

Abrak emphasized that the humor in the James Bond series should be carefully crafted. In Denmark, we appreciate dark humor and silliness to balance out the gravity of being an assassin, but for Bond, the humor is more British and serves to bolster his energy and persona, which are central features. Thus, instead of flamboyant disguises like flamingos, it should still be amusing.

In a conversation, Abrak discussed some distinctions in gameplay that players can expect when transitioning from “Hitman” to “007: First Light“. He pointed out that there would be a greater focus on action-packed sequences as opposed to the social stealth that’s typical of Agent 47. Yet, while the action aspect is highlighted, the gameplay will still maintain the system-based approach that IO Interactive is recognized for.

He explained that the game plays uniquely compared to others. It places a stronger emphasis on action, without a doubt. The design of Bond resembles something more alive, with sections that offer stunning moments and exotic vehicles interspersed with linear parts. Furthermore, there’s room for Bond to take a breather, making it feel less like a strategic game of chess and more like spontaneous, impulsive action. In essence, while there are similarities to IO Interactive’s Hitman games, this Bond is more proactive. It leans away from the intricate planning and precision found in Hitman, opting instead for a more reactive approach where Bond handles situations as they come.

This project has a unique vibe since our goal is to create an authentic Bond-style adventure, not a mere clone of games like Hitman. However, IO Interactive’s signature touch will still be evident. What you’ll see is more than just another game from them; it’s something new and different, aiming to deliver a complete, immersive Bond experience.
