10 Comics Costumes We Absolutely Need in Marvel Rivals

Marvel Rivals has swept through the gaming community, attracting a vast following of Marvel enthusiasts who can now play iconic and lesser-known characters. The debut of season 1 this week offers an array of costumes for players to personalize their characters, including unique designs and those inspired by comic books and films, with hints of more exciting options on the horizon.

Those thoughts sparked in us about which comic book outfits we’d love to have included in the game, considering the growing number of characters being made playable. So, without any more delay, we’ve compiled a list of 10 fantastic costumes straight from the comics that we believe should immediately be introduced into the game, and if they receive the same quality treatment as other costumes in Rivals, they could easily become essential purchases for fans.

Black Widow: Gray Bodysuit, Hellfire Gala

Kicking things off is everyone’s beloved super spy, Black Widow, who is initially dressed in her favorite black suit, but with a twist of red accents and contemporary style. Additionally, she has her White Widow suit from the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). For her comic book adaptations, we’re first focusing on another classic 80s look. This includes a grey bodysuit that preserves the sleekness of her iconic appearance while adding an edge with a striking angular collar, a black widow symbol, and yellow Widow Bites gauntlets. The grey suit rarely fails to impress, and it could undoubtedly be enhanced further by Rivals with some additional stylish touches.

The widow has an array of stunning outfits to select, yet we’re offering her an extra treat. The Hellfire Gala has provided some exceptional costume concepts over the recent years, and for this year’s event, Russell Dauterman designed a captivating ensemble that embodies Black Widow while still setting it apart from her previous looks. A significant element contributing to its unique appeal is the crimson mask paired with the long braid that nearly touches the ground. Applying a Rivals filter to this suit could potentially make it one of the finest in the series if it gets included.

Captain America: Ultimates World War II

Among Captain America’s many iconic costumes, one that stands out for its enduring appeal is the World War II design from The Ultimates. Its militaristic style, complete with textured fabric and accessories like goggles, an A-emblazoned helmet, and a more angular shield, make it a costume that’s hard to forget. Even if other characters modify it slightly, as long as they maintain the essential features and overall vibe, this costume is sure to be a fan favorite.

Moon Knight: Hunter’s Moon

In the variety of costumes available for Moon Knight, this particular one was remarkably simple to decide upon. The Moon Knight series penned by Jed MacKay unveiled an interesting twist: there are two bearers of Khonshu’s fists, and one is a character named Yehya Badr, more commonly recognized as Hunter’s Moon.

The Hunter’s Moon character shares similar powers as Moon Knight, making him an ideal candidate for an alternate costume. This suit features a predominantly black design, accented with a white cape, a symbol on the forehead, and gold details such as gauntlets, boots, and a larger belt. With a few tweaks from the Rivals design team, you’ve got a stylish costume that pays homage to Moon Knight comics and is a winning combination.

Magik: Phoenix Five

At one point, multiple X-Men wielded the Phoenix force, earning them the temporary title of the Phoenix Five. Among those were Magik, Colossus, Cyclops, White Queen, and Namor. Marvel Rivals could potentially develop an exceptionally stylish design inspired by Magik’s Phoenix Five attire. The suit’s red and gold color scheme provides a refreshing change from her usual appearance, but the spiky armor and longer black boots maintain a connection to her classic style, making it still feel familiar. Don’t you think this design would look awesome as Magik cuts through the battlefield with her soulsword?

Spider-Man: Hellfire Gala

This one was challenging, as aside from Batman, not many characters have costumes as iconic as Spider-Man’s. To be honest, Scarlet Spider has been a favorite of mine for quite some time, but now I’m finding myself considering the Hellfire Gala outfit too.

2022’s Hellfire Gala presented some breathtaking designs, and among them was this stunning piece. The Spider-Man costume at the Hellfire Gala aligns exceptionally well with the current Rivals theme. Its Spider design, illuminated by almost neon lights, extends across both the front and back, but it’s the side stretch that truly sets it apart. This design exudes an amazing coolness and stands out from any other Spider-Man costume. Add to that the neon webbed boots, gloves, and eyes, and you have a costume that seems tailor-made for Rivals right from the start.

Fantastic Four: Future Foundation

In a similar vein to Anti-Venom, it seems that if a set featuring Future Foundation costumes hasn’t been created yet, it’s a real missed chance. These redesigns, particularly for the Fantastic Four and Marvel characters as a whole, stand out among contemporary ones due to their striking white and black color scheme and sleek, modern design. They would undeniably add visual appeal to the action on screen. Given that you’ve recently launched the Fantastic Four, and considering a potential inclusion for Spider-Man down the line, this idea seems like an obvious choice.

Storm: Age of Apocalypse

In our next exploration, we’re venturing into an alternate reality, specifically the Age of Apocalypse, which happens to be one of my all-time favorite stories. Instead of showcasing numerous looks from this alternate timeline, we’ve chosen two distinctive ones to highlight. First up is Storm. In the game, Storm dons a predominantly black and white suit, but her AoA suit in this universe is a unique blend, featuring elements of both with a 90s aesthetic twist.

The suit distinguishes itself with a streamlined structure and contrasting black and white color palette, yet it exhibits a more voluminous silhouette at the shoulders. It’s a unique vest-jacket combo, accentuated by a golden sash, and completed with longer white boots. The shorter hairstyle and black tattoo around the eye add to its striking appearance, making it distinctively recognizable yet unlike anything else in Rivals. Giving this design to the Rivals team for their creative touch could result in an astonishingly cool addition to your Storm costume collection, offering a refreshing change in your wardrobe.

Wolverine: Age of Apocalypse, Horseman of Death

To wrap things up, let me tell you about Wolverine, who’s far from least impressive! He’s already got some fantastic outfits in the game, such as his iconic yellow and blue one, and the Old Man Logan-inspired design that really stole the spotlight this week with the latest battlepass. But there’s more where that came from! One of the costumes waiting in the wings is the Age of Apocalypse redesign, a fan favorite. In Age of Apocalypse, Wolverine wore a blue and red suit that looks great on its own, but with his wilder hair and metal replacement for his other hand, it transforms into something truly extraordinary. If Rivals decided to go with this design, you’d see a lot of Age of Apocalypse Logans battling it out, and I can’t blame anyone for joining in – I’d be right there too!

Should you fancy a change of pace, opting for the “Horseman of Death” motif could be an intriguing choice. In this guise, Logan donned a red cloak concealing his face and later his head to keep his identity secret. Overlying this, he wore a predominantly blue armored suit adorned with silver details and brown straps that secured the chest plate and gauntlets. Translated to a Marvel Rivals-style design, this concept could indeed captivate many, potentially making it easier for onlookers to identify Wolverine as he swiftly navigates the battlefield.
