The Marvel Cinematic Universe was set in motion by Tony Stark when he ventured into a cave, as seen in “Iron Man.” This single act ignited a series of events that ultimately resulted in the creation and defense of the world by the Avengers against various dangers. Despite not being undervalued, Tony has had his own trilogy of films and featured roles in all four Avengers films. The man who embodies him, Robert Downey Jr., is set to reprise his role as he portrays Doctor Doom in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday, demonstrating that Tony’s influence remains strong even today.
One method the Marvel Cinematic Universe acknowledges its leading hero’s greatness is by consistently introducing him to fresh armor suits in each film. At least one innovative design is featured in every movie, equipping him with updated gadgets and tools for battling injustice effectively. Yet, there are many more exciting Iron Man armors yet to make an appearance in the MCU.
1) Deep-Space Armor
In Marvel Comics, Tony Stark is typically seen running with the Avengers team. However, he also spends time with other renowned groups, such as the Guardians of the Galaxy. To traverse space effortlessly, Iron Man puts on his Deep-Space Armor that can swiftly reach warp speed without any complications. If an alternate version of Tony were to encounter the MCU’s Guardians in the future, he would already be suited up perfectly.
2) Godkiller Armor MK II
I, an ardent admirer, come across news about the Godkiller Armor, a marvel engineered by a formidable race who confront the mighty Aspirants – the Celestials. Alas, I’m unable to don this suit myself, but I envision and construct a replica that towers over even the Celestials. With it, I prepare to engage in combat with the ominous Dark Celestials. Given my prowess, perhaps I could have fashioned something comparable if I had been present during the events of Eternals.
3) Thorbuster Armor
In the Marvel Cinematic Universe and comic books, Thor and Iron Man often have disagreements. When Thor puts his faith in an Asgardian crystal with Tony Stark, Doom deceives Earth’s people into thinking Thor is dangerous. Using this crystal, Stark constructs the Thorbuster Armor, but Thor swiftly defeats it, demonstrating that brute strength can sometimes outsmart intelligence.
4) Future Foundation Armor
As the Fantastic Four prepare for their entry into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it’s likely that the Future Foundation won’t be too far behind. This organization serves as a research hub where Reed Richards brainstorms ideas to better our world. At some point, Tony Stark takes charge and battles alongside Sue Storm while donning a purple armor suit.
5) Iron Lantern
In the 90s, DC Comics and Marvel Comics had a more friendly relationship, leading them to publish a number of crossover comics. One such comic was titled “Iron Lantern“. This story centered around Hal Stark, a combined character of Tony Stark (Iron Man) and Hal Jordan. He wore a stylish green suit that bore the Green Lantern emblem on his arc reactor. Although it’s doubtful this character will appear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it’s still worth noting.
6) Sentinel Buster Armor
On multiple occasions, Tony’s technology slips from his grasp, but one particularly disastrous event occurs when Feilong seizes control over Stark Unlimited and exploits its resources to intimidate mutants. To aid the X-Men, Iron Man suits up in the Sentinel Buster Armor, an armor equipped to neutralize Sentinels. It might be interesting to see Ironheart wearing a similar version of the armor when mutants encounter difficulties within the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
7) Celestial Hulkbuster Armor
In the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), the Hulkbuster armor stands out as a memorable piece, presenting quite a challenge for Bruce Banner’s alter ego during “Avengers: Age of Ultron”. However, in the comics, the battles between Hulk and Iron Man can escalate significantly. At some point, due to their history, Iron Man designs the Celestial Hulkbuster Armor using the remains of a celestial body as a means to impart a lesson on his former ally.
8) Fin Fang Foombuster Armor
In the Marvel Universe, there’s no danger that Tony Stark doesn’t believe he can overcome. He even designs the Fin Fang Foombuster Armor when the Controller unleashes an alien terror on Earth. While it’s unlikely that Tony anticipated battling giant dragons in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, if he had, Shang-Chi would likely gain significant advantage due to the Ten Rings seeming to be linked to the beast.
9) Explorer Armor
Apart from his ordinary activities with the Guardians of the Galaxy, Tony Stark is always aware that he may need to venture into space. When Thor disappears, Iron Man swiftly equips himself with his Explorer Armor, boasting impressive life support capabilities, to traverse Jotunheim. Despite enduring challenging circumstances for several days, he remains steadfast in his quest to find his friend.
10) Anti-Magneto Armor
Just as Wolverine has trouble against Magneto due to his metallic skeleton, Iron Man struggles when facing the Master of Magnetism. To counterbalance this, Iron Man designs an Anti-Magneto suit that doesn’t contain any metal components. In a confrontation with Magneto in Doomsday, Doctor Doom would be wise to employ a similar tactic.
