10 Marvel Heroes Who Could Have Easily Beaten Loki in The Avengers

In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Loki is quite popular among fans. Tragically, he met his end at the hands of Thanos, but in the Disney+ series Loki, he was granted a new lease on life. His adventure takes many unexpected turns, eventually leading him to save the multiverse by sitting on the throne at the End of Time and maintaining its stability. This noble act can make one forget that Loki once sought to rule Earth malevolently. Thankfully, the Avengers managed to subdue him, but it appears they weren’t the only ones capable of handling such a task.

It can’t be denied that Loki, the Trickster, is at his peak power during the Avengers’ storyline. He doesn’t fully leverage his powers of illusion or transformation but rather gets others to carry out most of the difficult tasks. Yet, he has a formidable force in the Chitauri as his backup, making him quite a tough adversary to face.

Odin

In no other character does Loki find such a strong reaction as his adoptive father, Odin. Their relationship takes a drastic turn for the worse in the movie Thor, leading Loki into Thanos’ grasp. At that moment, it’s doubtful that Odin desired reconciliation with his troubled son; however, if he had known that he was nurturing an army to attack one of the Nine Realms, there’s a high likelihood that the Allfather would have confronted him directly. Given Odin’s immense power, defeating the Chitauri would pose no challenge for him – remember, he hardly perspires when facing off against the Frost Giants, who are stronger in every aspect. With his followers absent, Loki would be left vulnerable before his father, a situation that typically results in Loki retreating with his head down.

Classic Loki

Although the original Loki might not acknowledge himself as a hero, his selfless act at the end of Loki Season 1 undeniably earns him that title. His life is marked by tragedy, from surviving the incidents of Infinity War to secluding himself to prevent further harm. However, it’s his flaws that make him an ideal contender to subdue his variant. The Classic Loki has experienced everything the Loki in The Avengers did, which gives him the advantage of understanding and reasoning with his variant. Even if reasoning fails, his magical prowess far surpasses that of his counterpart, enabling him to overcome his rival and his forces.

Rocket

Initially, Rocket may not appear strong enough to overcome a deity, but don’t be fooled by his rough exterior. He is highly intelligent and has extensive knowledge about the Chitauri, even going as far as calling them the weakest army in the cosmos. In an unused scene from Avengers: Endgame, Rocket mocks both the Avengers for taking too long to defeat the Chitauri and their military strength. If he’s so certain about defeating the Chitauri mothership, it’s safe to assume that he could devise a plan to capture Loki as well. Moreover, his loyal companion, Groot, is always ready for battle, which further strengthens Rocket’s argument.

Scarlet Witch

In the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), Loki’s magical skills are quite weak compared to others, making him wary of engaging in fights with more skilled practitioners. Particularly, he wishes to steer clear of Scarlet Witch, as her power exceeds even that of the Mad Titan. While Loki may momentarily deceive through illusions, Wanda Maximoff possesses a unique ability to pierce such deceit more effectively than anyone else. In fact, it’s fortunate for Loki that Wanda didn’t make her MCU debut in the first Avengers film, as her presence would likely have significantly reduced his reign of terror.

Doctor Strange

In essence, Doctor Strange shares some similarities with Scarlet Witch, both being adept in their respective supernatural abilities and having dealt with an Infinity Stone. However, Doctor Strange holds a slight advantage over Wanda due to his prior encounters with Loki within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In the movie “Thor: Ragnarok”, he successfully confined Loki to another dimension for half an hour by blending him metaphorically speaking. Loki doesn’t seem to have a counter for Doctor Strange’s magic, and it’s plausible that their confrontation in “The Avengers” would have ended similarly favorably for the Sorcerer Supreme.

Captain Marvel

In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Captain Marvel, who obtained her powers through the Tesseract, is a hero with extensive Infinity Stone knowledge. Few characters can match Carol Danvers’ cosmic prowess, which includes superhuman strength, speed, and resilience. In fact, she momentarily overpowers Thanos, only for him to retaliate with the Power Stone when he’s desperate. If Captain Marvel were to confront Loki from The Avengers, it would likely result in a worse beating than the Hulk inflicted on him.

Smart Hulk

Absolutely! In The Avengers, Hulk definitely gave Loki a severe beating that left the Trickster still nursing grudges in Thor: Ragnarok. However, the Hulk from that team-up film required his fellow heroes to get the opportunity to pummel Loki into submission. Contrastingly, Smarter Hulk could’ve handled it single-handedly. He retains his astonishing strength but also possesses the intellect to devise a strategy to finally eliminate Loki and his minions permanently. It’s no wonder why many Marvel characters prefer brains over brute force.

Sentry

Although Sentry isn’t a prominent figure in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as of now, his comic book background indicates that he possesses the ability to overpower Loki. He is one of the most powerful characters within the Marvel universe and his dark counterpart, The Void, is a relentless assassin who has been known to kill deities. In fact, during the Siege storyline, The Void eliminated the God of Mischief before focusing on Ares, the God of War, tearing him apart limb from limb. If Sentry had been included in the Avengers team, the PG-13 rating for the movie would have been challenging to maintain.

Beta Ray Bill

In the Marvel Comics universe, Beta Ray Bill can be seen as an alternate version of Thor, capable of yielding the god’s weapons. Unlike Thor, when confronting Loki, Beta Ray Bill holds a significant edge since he avoids letting emotions cloud his judgment. While Thor usually overpowers Loki in physical combat, he often falls prey to his brother’s deceptions. In contrast, Beta Ray Bill would easily perceive Loki’s ruses and respond with swift, decisive action, thwarting Loki’s Earth-invading schemes.

Silver Surfer

The gods of Asgard are undoubtedly powerful, yet there are Marvel cosmic heroes who excel in a superior category. The Silver Surfer belongs to this elite group, possessing the Power Cosmic that allows him to harness energy on demand. His strength, speed, and resilience would leave Loki bewildered even on his best day, and it’s safe to say that the Chitauri wouldn’t stand a chance in a confrontation with him. In such a scenario, Loki would need to submit to the Silver Surfer and pray that he isn’t serving Galactus during that timeframe.
