10 New Things We’ve Learned About Star Wars Outlaws

As a seasoned space traveler with years of galactic exploration under my belt, I must say that the landscapes and cities of Toshara, Kijimi caught my attention like no other in my vast journey through the galaxy. The frigid, icy terrain and squat stone buildings of this frozen planet’s capital city gave off a hauntingly beautiful vibe that was unlike any I had ever encountered before.

As a dedicated gamer eagerly anticipating the release of Star Wars Outlaws, I’ve been excited about this game since its announcement. With its promise of becoming the ultimate Star Wars scoundrel, I couldn’t wait to get my hands on it. And now, with the launch just around the corner, Ubisoft and Massive Entertainment have been giving us sneak peeks into the game’s open world.

MIROGANA

In the game Star Wars Outlaws, players will have the opportunity to discover familiar places from past Star Wars productions, along with entirely new destinations, including the moon of Toshara. The presentation showcased a significant amount of gameplay set in Mirogana, which is situated within a massive rock formation in the savanna’s core due to the harsh winds. This visually intriguing city offers dense environments and various NPC encounters, leaving an optimistic impression based on what was displayed.

THE WILDS OF TOSHARA

1. Beyond Mirogana lies Toshara, a region dominated by expansive savannas. Many of the locations Kay explored were here, suggesting that travel within Toshara may primarily depend on Kay’s speeder due to its vastness and the need to cover greater distances. The landscape in Toshara features naturally occurring ramps for easier speeding, which could make traversal more engaging. Additionally, it appears that speeder races will be offered for those seeking such thrills.

IMPERIAL BASE

In our hands-off experience with “Star Wars Outlaws,” we spent a significant amount of time exploring the planet Toshara. However, we also got a peek at a few other locations within the game. For instance, a few hours into our session, Kay piloted her ship into an enormous Imperial station. Upon landing, we were struck by how accurately “Outlaws” had replicated the distinctive and instantly recognizable Imperial design of the “Star Wars” universe. The station was filled with the expected features of the Empire: gleaming white panels bathed in bright light, TIE fighters, Stormtroopers, and all the other elements you’d typically find in an Imperial setting from the “Star Wars” franchise.

KIJIMI

As a gamer, I’ve ventured to another chilling planet named Kijimi in Star Wars Outlaws, previously glimpsed in The Rise of Skywalker (a film some might prefer to forget). Unlike the sun-soaked plains of Toshara, Kijimi is an icy, frozen world. Its capital city boasts short, stone structures, a gloomier light, and fewer folks around, creating a distinct atmosphere compared to Mirogana. Though we’re saving our final opinion for when we fully explore the city ourselves, what I’ve witnessed thus far has definitely sparked my curiosity.

SPACE

1. In Star Wars Outlaws, traveling between galaxies’ moons and planets is undeniably crucial, but navigating and traversing through the cosmos will also play a significant role. During our demo, there was a good deal of space action, hinting at intense combat scenarios. Space pirates, various factions, not to mention the Empire with its patrols, were all present in the game’s space battles we witnessed. These encounters appeared hectic and combative.

TRAILBLAZER

As a long-time fan of Ubisoft and Star Wars, I’ve been eagerly anticipating the release of “Star Wars Outlaws.” And let me tell you, Kay’s ship, the Trailblazer, has left me utterly captivated. From the sneak peeks we’ve been given so far, the Trailblazer is a familiar sight in the Star Wars Outlaws universe. But during our recent hands-off session, I uncovered some intriguing new details about this ship that have only fueled my excitement.

CANTINAS

As a dedicated gamer immersed in the gritty underworld of Star Wars Outlaws, I can’t wait to explore the various cantinas that pepper this galaxy of scoundrels and ne’er-do-wells. In one early mission, my character, Kay, ventures into the crowded cantina of Mirogana, on a quest to strike a deal with Gorak, an underboss in the Pyke syndicate. The interiors of this cantina were nothing short of breathtaking for any Star Wars fan. With unique NPC interactions that felt authentic to the universe, hidden easter eggs that rewarded exploration, and meticulous attention to detail that brought every corner to life, I found myself eagerly participating in various minigames. Each new location offered a fresh experience, transporting me deeper into this captivating underworld.

KAY’S TOOLS

In “Star Wars Outlaws,” the fundamental elements will include stealth, hiding behind cover while shooting, and exploring an open world. However, Kay’s role as a thief and outlaw goes beyond just using her blaster. She can utilize various tools such as a lockpick hidden in her hair to bypass locked doors, a grappling hook to traverse gaps, and a Slicing kit for hacking into terminals, among other things. Additionally, she will be seen maneuvering through vents and engaging in climbing challenges reminiscent of Nathan Drake’s adventures.

LOADOUTS

As a spacefarer embarking on adventures with the Trailblazer ship, I’ll have the exciting opportunity to tweak my gear setup in diverse ways. Not only can I choose from various cosmetic options for my character’s attire, but I’ll also get to outfit my character, Kay, with a restricted number of charms. These charms will come with distinct effects that could add an extra layer of personalization to gameplay. The exact number of these enchanting items we can anticipate in the game is yet unknown, but it seems like an intriguing approach for customization.

ADRENALINE

In Star Wars Outlaws, the fighting style is mainly cover-based shooting, and we witnessed this extensively during our preview session. Initially in the presentation, an innovative Adrenaline feature piqued our interest. When you find yourself in intense firefights with your back to a wall, Kay’s adrenaline level will gradually increase. Fully charging this meter grants you the ability to momentarily halt the action, tag adversaries, and then swiftly eliminate them with a series of precise gunshots. This mechanic bears a striking resemblance to Red Dead Redemption’s Dead Eye system.
