10 Questions Power Rangers Never Answered (That Still Frustrate Fans)

For three decades, the franchise has taken fans on thrilling journeys as they watched a team of multi-hued superheroes protect Earth from villainy. A key element that kept viewers hooked throughout the lengthy series was the interconnected continuity, with most seasons unfolding in the same chronology. Although this facilitates the creation and expansion of backstory across multiple seasons, it has also led to numerous complications.

Despite the longevity of the Power Rangers franchise allowing it to address fan queries and resolve plot holes across both the TV series and BOOM! Studios comics, there remain several enigmas that fans have pondered over for years. Some of these mysteries, marked by inconsistencies in the lore or continuity issues, continue to puzzle viewers.

What Happened to Aisha Campbell?

The Series Never Explains if Aisha Ever Returned From Africa

During the Alien Rangers storyline in the third season of Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers, Master Vile manipulated time, transforming the rangers into children. This necessitated a worldwide search for fragments of the Zeo Crystal. Finding a piece of the Crystal in an African village, she chose to remain behind to aid the villagers with her veterinary skills, passing on her powers to a local girl named Tanya Sloan.

When Tanya becomes part of the team again and transforms back into a teenager, Zordon tells us that Aisha’s decision led her parents to go to Africa, which left viewers puzzled as the show never clarified if Aisha ever went back home or what happened to Tanya’s parents after restoring the Earth’s time flow.

How Did Andros and Zordon Know Each Other?

Zordon’s Relationship With Andros Came Out of Nowhere

In the series “Power Rangers In Space,” Andros debuted as the Red Space Ranger, taking over as team leader. It’s evident from the start that Andros knew Zordon, yet the show doesn’t delve much into the nature of their relationship. The episode titled “Survival of the Silver” reveals that it was actually Zordon who bestowed Andros and Zhane with their Ranger powers.

It appears that neither in “Mighty Morphin'”, “Zeo”, nor “Turbo” did it seem that Zordon maintained contact with another Ranger from the galaxy. This gave an impression that Andros and Zordon had not communicated for many years. Given that Zordon could reach out to someone in a crisis, viewers pondered why Andros was not introduced to the other Rangers earlier.

Robo Knight’s Appearance in the Legendary Battle

This Infamous Moment Left Fans Baffled

In the television series Power Rangers Megaforce, Robo Knight debuted as the sixth member of the team. Yet, one questionable decision made by the show was how Robo Knight’s story unfolded at the end of Power Rangers Super Megaforce. Specifically, after making a self-sacrificing move in the final battle against Vrak, Robo Knight vanished, causing Red Ranger Troy to spend a significant portion of the following season searching for him.

In the show Super Megaforce, Robo Knight resurfaced, rescuing Silver Ranger Orion before being engulfed by an explosion. Although the series showed that Robo Knight had transferred his last bit of life energy to Orion, strangely enough, he reappears again in the Legendary Battle at the end of the season with no reason given whatsoever.

Why Did the Zeo Rangers Switch to the Turbo Powers?

The Series Never Explained Why the Rangers Stopped Using Their Zeo Powers

Initially, on the TV show Power Rangers, each season featured the same core team whose members occasionally changed throughout the series. There was always a logical reason provided for why these characters received new powers. The transition from Mighty Morphin’ to Power Rangers Zeo was done smoothly, but the subsequent power upgrade raised many unanswered questions.

Movie Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie
IMDb Rating 3.7
Rotten Tomatoes Score 16% Tomatometer 41% Audience Score

Fans often pondered why the Rangers decided to switch to the new suits, as they hadn’t lost their Zeo powers in the first place. While the change might have been necessary for the series to progress and adapt the next “Super Sentai” storyline from a production standpoint, there was no narrative reason provided for them ceasing to use the Zeo powers.

Samurai’s Octoroo’s Fate Remains a Mystery

Octoroo Seemed to Have Survived Samurai’s Finale

In the Power Rangers Samurai series, Octoroo was presented as one of Master Xandred’s lieutenants, acting as a general to the primary antagonist. When Xandred was vanquished by the Rangers, the Sanzu River retreated into the Netherworld, causing Xandred’s ship to sink with Octoroo aboard. Since the Nighlok were aquatic creatures, it was speculated among fans that Octoroo might have survived and could make a comeback in a future season.

Nevertheless, Octoroo didn’t reappear in Power Rangers again. Although his character Shitari of the Bones did come back for the joint special, Tensou Sentai Goseiger vs. Shinkenger: Epic on Ginmaku, this special wasn’t adapted into Power Rangers Megaforce, leaving Octoroo’s story unresolved. Many fans anticipated a conclusion to the character in the Power Rangers Samurai tribute episode of Super Megaforce, but unfortunately, he was left out entirely.

What Happened to Terra Venture After Lost Galaxy

The Series Never Explained if the Colony Returned to Earth

In the television show “Power Rangers Lost Galaxy,” a massive space station known as Terra Venture was presented. This station functioned as a space colony for Earth’s humans and served as the headquarters for the Galaxy Rangers. Towards the end of the series, the primary antagonist, Trakeena, caused severe damage to Terra Venture, which eventually plummeted onto the planet Mirinoi.

In subsequent episodes of the series, it’s not made clear what became of Terra Venture and its colonists following their arrival on Mirinoi. However, we do see that the Galaxy Rangers have established a base on Mirinoi as depicted in Power Rangers Lightspeed Rescue. Yet, there’s no information provided about whether the rest of the colony ever returned to Earth, even though Farkas’ Bulkmeier appears to be back on Earth in Power Rangers Wild Force.

Why Did the A-Squad Turn Evil?

Power Rangers S.P.D. Never Explained the A-Squad Rangers’ Turn to Evil

In Power Rangers S.P.D., the protagonists were part of a less prominent team, the B-team Rangers, who worked under the more recognized A-Squad. But when the A-Squad vanished mysteriously, the B-team took over temporarily as the stand-in A-Squad. In the episode “Resurrection,” it was disclosed that the A-Squad had actually been corrupted and turned evil.

Although the unexpected transformation of the original A-Squad into villains was captivating, the series fails to clarify the circumstances that led to this metamorphosis. Interestingly, they ended up siding with the show’s antagonist, Emperor Gruumm, despite hailing from the very planet he covets. The series suggests this was driven by a desire for power, but a more comprehensive explanation would have been beneficial, given that there were hints of their impending corruption even in the early episodes.

Were Dimitria and Divatox Sisters?

It Was Implied That the Power Rangers Turbo Mentor and Villain Had a Shared History

The first season known as Power Rangers Turbo marked the debut of a fresh mentor for the Ranger team, with Dimitria from Planet Inquiris stepping in for Zordon. Throughout the series, there were several suggestions that Dimitria might have been the sister of the main antagonist, Divatox, but the plotline was left unresolved as the show moved forward without providing a conclusive explanation.

In the TV show “Turbo,” Divatox expresses herself as being completely opposite to Dimitria, showing intense anger upon discovering that Dimitria had become the new mentor for the Rangers. A significant hint for viewers was that the actress portraying both characters, Carol Hoyt, appeared in the first 25 episodes. However, this plot point was never fully explained, leaving fans to draw their own conclusions from various hints scattered throughout the series.

How Were There Still Villains After the Z-Wave

Zordon’s Energy Wave Should Have Wiped Out All of the Villains on Earth

The last episode of Power Rangers In Space was truly spectacular and effectively wrapped up the series. It felt satisfying as Andros destroyed Zordon’s time-warp tube, causing a wave of energy known as ‘Z-Wave’ to sweep across the galaxy, transforming all villains into either dust or their human forms.

In contrast, when the series was extended for additional seasons, new antagonists emerged without much detail on how they survived the Z-Wave. Characters like Trakeena from “Lost Space” could have plausibly been beyond the reach of the Z-Wave, but later Earth-bound villains introduced in subsequent seasons seemed to have defied the Z-Wave’s destruction, and the show failed to offer any resolution for this inconsistency.

Thrax’s Origins Make No Sense

The Son of Rita Repulsa and Lord Zedd Is a Massive Continuity Error

In the 15th anniversary special of “Power Rangers Operation Overdrive,” Thrax debuted as a new adversary. However, what puzzled fans was the disclosure that Thrax was actually the offspring of villains Rita Repulsa and Lord Zedd from Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers. This seemed illogical given the timeline. In the two-part special, Thrax clarified this mystery by stating that he had been locked away on the moon by the Sentinel Knight, as a flashback depicted the Sentinel Knight in his physical form.

It’s puzzling how Sentinel Knight, who hadn’t assumed this form in thousands of years as depicted in Operation Overdrive, could be the son of Rita and Zedd since they didn’t develop feelings for each other until their second season, which was approximately fourteen years before Operation Overdrive. This is further complicated by the fact that Rita herself was jailed for 10,000 years. Consequently, Thrax appears to be a nostalgic wink to the original series villains, created without due regard for the chronology of Rita and Zedd’s story arcs.
