The Galactic Council’s Excursionary Committee’s guidebook titled Earth-616 Travel Guide suggests numerous opulent and intriguing spots on Earth, such as leisure destinations in Madripoor, regal trips through Wakanda, and the tranquility of Muir Island. Among their comprehensive Travel Warnings are the Kingdom of Latveria, Hell’s Kitchen in New York City, and the Savage Land at the South Pole. The guidebook classifies the prehistoric Savage Land as the most perilous place on Earth due to its megafauna, mutants, and malaria, posing a significant risk to travelers, adventurers, and sightseers from all over the cosmos in search of an affordable adrenaline rush in unexplored territories.
Tucked away by foggy barriers and concealed beneath impenetrable cloud layers over Antarctica lies an anomalous region known as the Savage Land – a timeless realm that seems to defy the passage of time. Plants and creatures long thought extinct on our planet flourish in this enigmatic ecosystem nestled amidst the frozen southern wilderness. Here, dinosaurs familiar from Mesozoic Era depictions roam freely across jungles, rivers, and plains, sustained by a climate reminiscent of the tropics, driven by volcanic activity emanating from nearby mountains. The Savage Land is home to various intelligent species, including anthropomorphic reptiles and winged humans, all vying for scarce resources and territories. Sinister cults, Vibranium miners, and criminal enterprises – both terrestrial and alien – secretly establish their bases in the area, operating without fear of global retribution. The Savage Land serves as a microcosm of hazards in one of Earth’s most unforgiving environments.
The Earth-616 Travel Guide offers these top 10 reasons to avoid taking a holiday in the Savage Land.
This version maintains the original meaning, but uses more common and straightforward language, making it easier for readers to understand.
10) Megafauna and Wandering Monsters
In the treacherous expanse known as The Savage Land, you’ll find a multitude of vicious predators and terrifying mysteries lurking within its dense rainforests, hidden caves, and diverse terrain. Remnants of ancient civilizations are inhabited by great apes, while massive sloths rummage through the forests seeking food. Hungry wolf packs traverse the untamed wilderness, often falling prey to the colossal carnivorous birds that rule from the heights of the mountains to the plains below. Roaming the mountainous regions are herds of Woolly Mammoth and their distant relatives, the Woolly Rhinos, pursued tirelessly by cunning saber-toothed cats. Should you venture into this untamed wilderness, always stay on the path. For monsters lie in wait around every corner.
9) Difficult Terrain
The entirety of a diverse ecosystem is enclosed by the formidable barriers of the Savage Land, boasting arctic summits, lush rainforests, and treacherous wastelands side by side. The Valley of Geysers, marked by unpredictable gas eruptions and intense elemental disturbances, should be avoided at all times, along with the Blight Plains – a barren desert rife with decay, carrion, and parasites, where everything in the Savage Land ultimately meets its end. I’d rather not. The tumultuous yet deadly cascades of Thunder Falls plunging from the Mountains of Darkness have swallowed numerous unsuspecting kayakers, while the depths of Lost Lake and its tributaries are inhabited by massive serpents, electric eels, and other unwelcome creatures. Skull Island, located on the western shore of Lost Lake, is a strictly off-limits sanctuary fiercely protected by tribes of Mer-people – it’s not advisable to have a picnic there. If you choose to traverse the waters of the Savage Land, always stay in your boat.
8) The Weather
In the Savage Lands, the weather can range from pleasantly warm to extremely dangerous, depending on your location. For instance, the vast tropical area is known for its unpredictable climate changes, such as swift temperature drops leading to sudden blizzards or intense hailstorms (this could be due to a supervillain or weather-wielder residing at Skull Island). The Blight Lands are constantly battered by sandstorms and dust devils, while the Mist Lands, with their dense fog, are nearly impossible to explore, let alone survive in. If you find yourself venturing into the Savage Land, be sure to pack accordingly – a raincoat, an insulated jacket, some summer shorts, and plenty of sunscreen.
7) Dinosaurs
As a movie lover, I can’t help but feel the thrill as I step into the Savage Land, a world teeming with colossal creatures that once ruled our planet – the dinosaurs. Stray off the beaten path, and you might find yourself in a heart-stopping encounter with a protective pachycephalosaurus guarding her precious eggs from potential threats. Herbivores like the spiky triceratops, gentle stegosaurus, and colossal brontosaurus are a spectacle to behold, but beware, for they can trigger a terrifying stampede when startled or chased by packs of ferocious feathery raptors.
Dimetrodons lounging on the shorelines might seem harmless with their sail-like structures, but these ancient carnivores are relentless hunters and always on the prowl for their next meal. Lastly, if you stumble upon a battle between Devil Dinosaur and a toothy T-Rex, it’s best to make a swift exit!
6) The Locals
It’s clear that the residents of this place aren’t exactly eager to greet strangers with open arms. Many different tribes and factions seem more interested in offering sacrifices to their gods or manipulating outsiders for their own purposes than in extending hospitality. The diverse native population includes various humanoid races, such as the territorial Lizard-Men of Vala-Kuri, nomadic Cat-People from Pandor, winged creatures from Aerie Shalan, the flying Pterons, and the amphibious Tubantithe. Among the human clans are the Fall People, who might be the only friendly group a traveler could meet in this entire wild land, as well as the Chatorea or Snow-Men, the Botor, the Tree People, and the Neanderthal-like Man-Ape Tribe led by Maa-Gor the Killer. It’s best to steer clear of the latter group if you want to stay alive.
5) Mutants Everywhere
In the Savage Lands, areas that are as mysterious as the realm of dinosaurs and mythical creatures, powerful mutants – or Homo Sapiens Superior – are attracted, much like magnetism pulls iron towards Magneto’s force. This land, filled with dense jungles, hides sinister secrets: Mister Sinister performs grotesque experiments on unwilling subjects, while the terrifying Sauron, a winged predator, hunts victims from the treetops. If you linger too long in these lands, it may fall under the control of ruthless figures like Apocalypse and his Four Horsemen. The X-Men will inevitably intervene to disrupt any chaos that arises. Wearing your “Mutant and Proud” badge might help you fit in with others who share your unique abilities.
4) Rogue Elements
Located far away from the usual travel routes, The Savage Land is a place that draws an unscrupulous assortment of individuals – criminals and corporate types alike. Be cautious as you may encounter gunrunners illegally supplying weapons to local groups engaged in constant conflict, dangerous poachers like Kraven the Hunter exploiting the rare wildlife for financial gain and status, or Roxxon representatives investigating potential Vibranium resources. If you wander too far, you could stumble upon hidden AIM facilities, revived HYDRA outposts, or a group of The Hand seeking communion with nature. It’s also possible that Skrulls are present, although it can be hard to tell for sure. These groups tend to keep outsiders away.
3) Outcasts
Some individuals are merely passing through or navigating their journey in the only way they can, but many others have chosen to retreat to the Savage Land for some peace and quiet. Therefore, if you happen to spot Stegron, the Dinosaur-Man with razor-sharp talons and a spiked tail roaming the jungle, or Man-Thing in deep meditation within the swamps and marshes of the Mist Lands, it’s best to keep your distance. And, if you come across Logan, also known as Wolverine, wandering aimlessly through the wasteland with no recollection of his past or who you are, be aware that he will likely be quite agitated.
2) Bugs
In the Savage Land, you’ll encounter a variety of winged, crawling, and biting insects that create a cacophony in the undergrowth. They fill the air with their swarms and climb up your legs. Be prepared for bark beetles and ants by the thousands, razing everything they come across. Black flies will strip creatures bare in just minutes. And let’s not forget the colossal spiders of Moldwood, Spider Trees, towering above the jungle itself, with their blackthorn legs protruding from their monstrous forms. They launch out massive webs and weave enormous traps to ensnare their hapless victims. The Savage Land is certainly not home to harmless little spiders.
1) Accommodations
In this location, attempting to construct anything is challenging due to frequent volcanic eruptions and the appearance of Celestial beings. Additionally, there’s no cell service available. Frankly, there’s no suitable place to reside here, so it’s best to find another destination. We assure you, we are experienced, and even we prefer not to be here.
