10 Shocking and Brutal Deaths in the Animated Series ‘Invincible’

The critically acclaimed Amazon Prime series, “Invincible,” based on the popular comic book franchise by Robert Kirkman, is hailed by fans as one of the top superhero shows of the 21st century. The story revolves around Mark Grayson (portrayed by Steven Yeun), a hybrid human-Viltrumite character (the show’s equivalent to Kryptonians), who aspires to be a hero like his father, Omni-Man (played by J.K. Simmons). However, his notion of heroism is shattered when he uncovers the truth that Omni-Man poses the greatest danger to Earth.

Warning: MAJOR Spoilers Ahead for the Invincible Animated Series on Prime!

The show is widely known for its heartfelt narrative, stunning visuals, and powerful soundtrack. However, what truly stands out about Invincible are the graphic deaths, some of which are so intense they’re difficult to watch again. As we gear up for Season 3, brace yourself for even more of these unforgettable moments as we revisit the series’ most gruesome scenes.

10. Donald Ferguson Sacrifices Himself (Season 1, Episode 7)

Donald Ferguson, an unremarkable employee at the Global Defense Agency who serves as Cecil Stedman’s personal assistant, has won over viewers across both seasons with his unwavering loyalty. This loyalty reached its zenith in the Season 1 finale of Invincible, where he made the ultimate sacrifice, attempting to eliminate Omni-Man in a desperate final stand.

Following capture by the fearsome Viltrumite, Donald suffered a crushed spine at the hands of Omni-Man. Determined to end things dramatically, he triggered the explosive devices concealed within their hideout, aiming to eliminate both himself and his captor.

9. Mark Murders Angstrom Levy (Season 2, Episode 8)

In the second season of “Invincible,” Angstorm Levy emerged as a significant adversary. Having acquired the power to move between dimensions, Levy aimed to retaliate against Invincible, who had previously disfigured him while thwarting one of his plots. By tracing Mark’s whereabouts, Angstrom threatened Mark’s family and outmaneuvered him by transporting him across various dimensions.

However, upon his return, Mark gives Angstrom a severe and violent beating that leaves him unrecognizable, with blood splattered everywhere. The decisive strike happens out of view as the scene transitions, revealing Mark drenched in crimson.

8. The Mauler Twins’ Human/Clone Shield (Season 1, Episode 3)

In the world of Invincible, the Mauler Twins might pose formidable threats if they could overcome their mutual animosity. During Season 1, this duo manages to break out from a high-security penitentiary. With suspicion that the other is a clone, Mauler Twin 1 (let’s call him Mauler Twin A) demonstrates little concern for his twin’s wellbeing.

Following their getaway from the compound, the duo faced attacks from laser-equipped sentry towers. Mauler Twin 1 employed the injured Mauler Twin 2 as a protective barrier, exposing his (clone’s) blood due to bullet wounds.

7. Battle Beast Destroys Monster Girl (Season 1, Episode 5)

In the series Invincible, it seems that the Guardians of the Globe face tougher hardships than the heroes. During their battle against Battle Beast and evil minions in Season 1, multiple members of the Guardians of the Globe suffer gruesome injuries or meet their untimely demise. Among them, Black Samson perished, but Monster Girl’s death stood out as particularly grim.

Following a brutal encounter with Battle Beast, Monster Girl found herself helplessly sprawled on the ground. Towering above her, Battle Beast picked up two enormous stones and mercilessly squashed Monster Girl’s head between them.

6. The Immortal’ Second Fight’s Ill-Fated Rematch With Omni-Man (Season 1, Episode 8)

In the case of our superhero known as The Immortal, he seems to meet his end quite frequently. Let’s discuss a later instance of The Immortal’s demise, but for now, let’s focus on his second battle against Omni-Man. During this encounter, Omni-Man showed no mercy. Unfortunately, the way The Immortal meets his second death is extremely gory.

With immense power, Omni-Man forcefully created a gaping opening in The Immortal’s chest by delivering a devastating punch. To ensure destruction, he subsequently split The Immortal’s body into two pieces using his bare hands, allowing the separated remains to plummet towards the ground below.

5. Salamander Is Destroyed From the Inside (Season 2, Episode 5)

The Shrinking Ray, unlike Ant-Man who’s hesitant in the MCU, takes out enemies internally instead of directly. This ability is vividly shown during season two when the Guardian of the Globe clashes with the Lizard League. In this particular battle, Shrinking Ray demonstrates her namesake by penetrating Salamander, moving inside his eye socket and obliterating his brain.

A salamander struggles frantically, losing its life due to an internal destruction process. All that remains is a motionless body, with fluid oozing from the eyes, ears, nostrils, and mouth.

4. Allen the Alien vs Viltrumites (Season 2, Episode 3)

Poor me, just an observer, finding myself deeply moved by the character of Allen the Alien, voiced so humorously by Seth Rogan. Yet, despite his adoration among fans, fate took a grim turn as the Viltrumite Empire relentlessly pursued and brought about his destruction. Even with years of rigorous training under his belt, Allen seemed no match for the formidable trio: Thula, Lucan, and an unnamed Viltrumite solider.

In a gruesome turn of events, Allen’s eye is forcefully removed from its socket, his limbs severed, and his internal organs spilled out by the soldiers. His battered body drifts aimlessly through the void.

3. Everyone On That Train (Season 1, Episode 8)

Let’s alternate our discussions between main and supporting characters, but before we move on, let’s pause to remember those who tragically lost their lives in Omni-Man’s final clash with Invincible at the end of Season 1. The fight had a heavy toll, with the most heart-wrenching casualties being the unfortunate train passengers.

In the course of their struggle, the duo tore through the underground tunnel of the subway system. Omni-Man seized Invincible by his head, forcing him face-first, with a speeding subway train hurtling towards them. The train was abruptly split in two, causing blood and internal organs to scatter off-screen on both sides.

2. Shrinking Rae’s Powers Backfire (Season 2, Episode 5)

Perhaps it wasn’t ideal for Ant-Man to eliminate Thanos as everyone anticipated, given that Rae’s powers which defeated the Lizard League later in battle proved less effective against the Komodo Dragon. While Rae’s tactic served well against Salamander, the more powerful Komodo Dragon overcame her.

Following ingestion, Shrinking Rae believed she had outsmarted the Komodo Dragon and returned to her normal size inside him. However, the formidable adversary clenched his muscles so forcefully that he squashed her while she was imprisoned within his body. Upon her demise, blood dripped from his mouth.

1. The Guardians of the Globe (Season 1, Episode 1)

In this list ranking the most significant deaths, the original team of Guardians of the Globe would likely claim the top 7 spots due to their violent and gruesome demise at the hands of Omni-Man. The unexpected revelation in the series premiere exposed that Omni-Man was not as he appeared to the world. Red Rush, Darkwing, Green Ghost, King Aquarus, Martian Man, War Woman, and The Immortal met a gruesome fate at Omni-Man’s hands, suffering dismemberment, disfigurement, and destruction, while Omni-Man barely sustained any injuries during the battle. This intense scene not only set a violent tone for the series but also left viewers stunned and eager to see what would unfold in future episodes.

Season 3 of Invincible is currently scheduled to premiere on Prime Video on February 6, 2025.
